Man Of La Mancha DuPont Theater
Mar 25 @ 19:30 – 20:30

Man Of La Mancha returns to the stage in an all-new production of the Tony Award winning musical that has inspired audiences since the very first notes of “The Impossible Dream” were heard on opening night.  Man of La Mancha will be appearing at the DuPont Theatre in Wilmington, Delaware for eight (8) performances only, from March 25- 30, 2014.

Jeffrey B. Moss directs an all new production that features Jack E. Curenton as Don Quixote, Jessica Norland as Aldonza and Rick Grossman as Sancho, along with Jebbel Arce, Felipe Bombonato, Chuck Caruso, Rachel Felstein, Todd Fenstermaker, Alison Gleason, Tucker Hammock, Chuck Hodges, Ivan Hoffman, Arthur Lazalde, Gabriel Rodrigues, Andrew Serkes, Grant Snuffer, Eugene Steficek, and Yvonne Strumecki. Denis Jones choreographs with musical supervision by Cherie Rosen.

Man of La Mancha is a remarkable show and one of the great theatre successes of our time. This play-within-a-play is based on Cervantes's Don Quixote. Against all odds, a man sees good and innocence in a world filled with darkness and despair. Enter the mind and the world of Don Quixote as he pursues his quest for the impossible dream: Miguel de Cervantes, aging and an utter failure, has been thrown into a dungeon in Seville to await trial by the Inquisition for an offense against the Church. But first he must face a kangaroo court of his fellow prisoners: thieves, cutthroats and trollops who propose to steal his meager possessions, including the unfinished manuscript of a novel called Don Quixote. Cervantes, seeking to save it, proposes a form of an entertainment. The ‘court’ agrees and before their eyes, Cervantes and his faithful manservant transform themselves into Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. They proceed to play out the story with the participation of the prisoners as other characters; Quixote and Sancho taking to the road to restore the age of chivalry, to battle evil and right all wrongs.

Man of La Mancha won five Tony Awards including Best Musical, along with the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and the Outer Critics Circle Award.  The New York Daily News says,

“The musical that’s set above and apart from all others by touching the heart!! An exquisite musical play!”

The New York Times raves, “Charm, gallantry and delicacy of spirit”

Performances are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings starting at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday evening performances start at 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 2 pm.  Ticket prices start at $35.  To purchase tickets or for more information about group rates, call the DuPont Theatre Box Office at 302-656-4401 or 800-338-0881 or on the internet, DuPont Theatre site: www.duponttheatre.com.

Landscape for Life™
Develop an environmentally-friendly landscape plan for your yard

Date:  Wednesday evenings, March 5 to April 9
Time:  5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Cost:  $100
Instructors:  Eileen Boyle & Margaret Shillingford, Mt. Cuba Center

This educational six-week series instructs homeowners on how to create and maintain healthy and beautiful landscapes by working with nature. The good news is that even one home garden can begin to repair the web of life. It is possible to create a great–looking garden that’s healthier for you, your family, pets, and the environment - and that saves you time and money.

Based on the principles of the Sustainable Sites Initiative, these classes explore the role of soils, water, vegetation, and materials in a sustainable landscape. Be prepared to take the basic measurements of your suburban lot or bring your site plan to the first session. These measurements and plans will be used in an exercise applying these principles to your own landscape.

The Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) is an interdisciplinary effort by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and the United States Botanic Garden to create voluntary national guidelines and performance benchmarks for sustainable land design, construction, and maintenance practices (similar to LEED certification in buildings). This class adds Mt. Cuba Center’s perspective to the Landscape for Life series helping you to cultivate the best landscape practices for the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Eileen Boyle is the director of education and research at Mt. Cuba Center. Previously she was the director of horticulture at the Philadelphia Zoo and the New York Botanical Garden. She has also worked as a horticulture professor, an administrator for the New York City’s parks, and for the USDA.

Margaret Shillingford is the education coordinator at Mt. Cuba Center. During her 20 plus year career in agricultural research, Margaret was also  a docent at Mt. Cuba Center and pursued a Masters in Education.

Lighting a Local Fire Presentation and Book Discussion

Wednesday, March 26 at 7 p.m.
Aldo Leopold's enthusiasm for the environmental movement took root locally in the work of the Brandywine Conservancy and many others, including Ted Browning, an important voice for the environment in the region. Browning's book of essays, Notes from Turtle Creek, provides a local perspective on topics that Leopold explored in A Sand County Almanac. Join in a discussion led by Conservancy staff on issues raised by both writers and learn how historic developments in land stewardship and conservation have shaped the look and feel of this region.  Both books are available in the museum shop and online. It is not necessary to have read the books to participate. The presentation is free for members and included in museum admission. The museum and galleries will open at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m.
How does a New England Aster connect with a Tufted Titmouse? Why is Purple Top grass important to Red Tailed Hawks? Do all female Great Spangled Fritillary butterflies seek Violets? The interconnectedness of nature is a recurring theme in Aldo Leopold's book, A Sand County Almanac. Come learn about many common but frequently underappreciated connections between native plants and the wildlife in our region from Mark Gormel, horticultural coordinator. He will present a beautifully illustrated and engaging look at understanding, enabling and sustaining these plants and the relationships that go with them, all with an eye on reducing the amount of time and materials required to reap the rewards of being a good steward on your piece of the earth. The presentation is free for members and included in museum admission. The museum and galleries will open at 6 p.m.

Rhythm of the Night: Irish Dance Spectacular
Apr 4 @ 19:30 – 20:30

The DuPont Theatre in Wilmington, Delaware presents Rhythm in the Night: The Irish Dance Spectacular on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 7:30pm for one (1) performance only.  Tickets start at $40.

Produced by Justin Boros, Rhythm in the Night is an epic journey derived from a tale of good versus evil where deception reigns and temptation rivals the strongest of wills. The story unfolds during the dark ages when the land was ruled by the wicked seductress Azura, whose spell has trapped the legendary hero Balor under her control to command her legion of relentless henchmen.  Unable to free himself, hope remains lost for all those in the kingdom...until now.

In a final attempt to rescue their leader, the people have called upon Balor's loving companion Aisling along with his younger brother Solas and their knights to release him from Azura's spell and restore peace to the divided kingdom. As the storm rolls in and the lightning crashes, redemption will rise from the shadows in the legend that has come to be known as Rhythm in the Night.

Adding to the drama and excitement of the production, Rhythm in the Night features an original soundtrack that delivers an orchestral atmosphere of epic proportions. The battle scenes transcend the struggle of dark versus light as lightning fast rhythms and a thunderous dance troupe display Irish dance like never before seen. Enjoy Rhythm in the Night as it turns an age-old art form into the most exciting Irish dance spectacular ever to be experienced!
