Made by designers Charles and Ray Eames in 1957, this short film features antique toy trains on a journey through town and country, with music by Academy Award-winning composer Elmer Bernstein. Free for members and included in museum admission.

Times Square has a ball drop to bring in the new year, but Kennett Square will now have the Mushroom Drop. The first-ever Mushroom Drop — with a 8 foot-by-7.5 foot mushroom — is scheduled for this New Year’s Eve. It’s part of the main event for Midnight in the Square, a new event in the borough. There will be music, food, and fun for everyone from 9 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 31 to 1 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 1. All events are on Broad Street and in the American Legion Building, between State and Cypress streets. Admission is the donation of a non-perishable item or canned good. All donations will be given to the Kennett Food Cupboard.

Join us for the first annual Vintage New Year's at the Independence Seaport Museum brought to you by Drink Philly. Come dressed to the nines in vintage attire from bowler caps to antique jewels. There will be significant prizes for the best dressed man, woman and best hat of the night! Vintage hat experts, Hat Covet will be judging The Best Hat of the Night Competition, so come dressed to impress and you may win some funky new toppers, courtesy of HC.

Tickets include unlimited pours and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Catch The Sermon! performing soul, funk and rock & roll classics from the 60's and 70's followed by an epic dance party with DJ Adrian Hardy.

The party will take place on the fourth floor of the Independence Seaport Museum with the best view of the waterfront fireworks in town. Tickets include a $20 credit to Uber so you can arrive in style.

Kick off the year at the park and have some fun while also getting exercise in nature.  We’ll pick a trail based on the group and walk for about an hour and visit many special places throughout the park.  This hike is for all ages and is stroller friendly.  There is no cost or pre-registration necessary.  Meet at the Arts Center.

Family Holiday Workshop

January 4, 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Families will have fun searching for items in the museum's train and doll displays and create train- and doll-themed crafts. Free for members and included in museum admission.

Prepare for the Season 4 Premiere on Sunday, January 5, 2014 with a special Downton Abbey Tea including live entertainment and tables dressed with specialty lace linens. On this day only, guests are also encouraged to wear early 1900’s Period Dress.  Guests will enjoy a three-course tea service, and can choose from a variety of teas including the new, Hotel du Pont Centennial Blend, a hearty black tea infused with hints of pineapple, the symbol of hospitality.  Tea service begins at 3:30pm and is $34/person.

Tastings classes begin every half an hour starting at 12 pm with the last class beginning at 5:30 pm.  Each class is limited to 20 people. This is a sit down guided by one of our staff through a tasting of 6-8 pairings of wine and cheese from September Farms.  This is a relaxed atmosphere where you will learn a little about wine and cheese. This tasting is $20 per person. The cheeses will be available for purchase as well.

No Reservations Required. Come early to get your spot. We will still have our traditional wine tasting option available for $5.

To celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy and draw attention to ongoing civil rights struggles, Swarthmore College’s Chester Children’s Chorus will perform at Chester’s historic Calvary Baptist Church, 1616 West 2^nd Street in Chester, on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. The performance will kick off local Martin Luther King Day celebrations and will feature original music and a special tribute to Dr. King.
