Delaware County Chamber’s Annual Meet the Candidates Forum is on October 23rd from 6 to 9pm. This year we are hosting the event at the Paxon Hollow Country Club. This program is recorded and aired on Comcast.
Candidates will be given 4-5 minutes to introduce themselves and discuss their platform. Each candidate will also have a table made available at the event to set out literature and to meet with constituents from the county both before and after the taping, if so desired.

The gates of Mt. Cuba Center are opening wide! For four days this fall, visitors may wander the grounds of the region’s finest wildflower gardens on their own. No reservations are necessary for Visitor Days, September 28, 29, October 26 & 27. Hours are 10AM to 4PM each day. Enjoy Discovery Stations, including leaf rubbings, and plants that critters love; visit the Piedmont Rock Outcrop on a special guided excursion at 11am and 2pm; and help evaluate Heucheras and Coreopsis in our Trial Garden. At the Main House, visitors can view “The Spirit of Art at Mt. Cuba Center,” an exhibition of paintings featuring scenic views of Mt. Cuba Center. Darlington Arts Center will present a public exhibition of watercolor paintings by Glen Mills artist Florence Stiefeld. Stiefeld has exhibited throughout the area, including solo exhibits at the Concord Township Municipal Building and Taylor Hospital. The free opening reception is Sunday, Nov. 4 from 2-4 p.m. and will provide an opportunity for visitors to meet the artist, and discuss her inspiration while enjoying complimentary wine and snacks. On November 14, 2012, at 6:30pm the Radley Run Country Club will hold our 4th Historic Seminar. This annual event is open to the public.
The event this year, “Muskets and Petticoats”, will include little known facts about the relationship between General George Washington and the Marques de Lafayette. To Washington, Lafayette became the son he never had and to Lafayette, Washington became the father he never knew. The evening will also focus on the often overlooked, yet important, role women played in the American Revolution. We expect a full house for this exciting event that will cover events from the Battle of the Brandywine on September 11, 1777 through the winter at Valley Forge.
As always the proceeds from the event will benefit charities. The beneficiaries this year are all related to the topic and include the Lafayette College Library, the Chester County Historical Society, and Friends of Valley Forge Park.
Admission to the event costs $20 per person. Attendees are welcome to stay for a buffet following the presentation for an additional $20 plus tax and gratuity.

Colombian clarinetist Benito Meza, a winner of Astral Artists' 2009 National Auditions, has appeared with the Boston Philharmonic, the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, Washington, D.C.'s Modern Music Set, the Gardner Chamber Orchestra, the Modern Music Ensemble, the Los Angeles Wind Ensemble, and on Harvard University's Chamber Music series, among many others. Also a composer, Mr. Meza's compositions and development as a musician have been greatly influenced by the wealth of varied forms of music he was exposed to throughout his childhood. From the beginning of his career, he was involved with both classical and jazz music, and Colombian folk music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and contemporary improvisation are also represented in the structure of his compo-sitions. Russian-American pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine, a winner of Astral Artists' 2009 National Auditions, has toured throughout Europe, Russia, North and South America, as well as in China and Japan. In recent seasons, he has appeared as soloist with the Tivoli Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Television Orchestra of Spain, Cleveland Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, Valencia Philharmonic, the Gran Canaria and Tenerife symphonies in the Canary Islands, the National Symphonic Orchestra of Panama, the National Symphonic Orchestra of Cuba, the Israel Philharmonic, and the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra of the Czech Republic. His recital in London's Wigmore Hall was hailed by International Piano magazine as "grandly organic, with many personal and pertinent insights, offering a thoughtful balance between rhetoric and fantasy...technically dazzling." Mary Woodmansee Green will sponsor their annual Instrumental
Competition for Young Artists on Saturday, November 17th at 1:00
pm at the Kendal at Longwood Auditorium, Kennett Square.
Twenty gifted young musicians in grades 9 to 12 will each perform a
classical composition or movement of a larger work for solo and
orchestra. The Young Artist Competitions provide an invaluable
performance experience for these aspiring student musicians who
have achieved a high level of proficiency.
The auditions are open to the public and are free of charge. Each of
the young musicians will be judged by a panel of professional
musicians. Three prizes will be awarded - first prize provides a
$500 cash award and the opportunity for a solo performance with
the Kennett Symphony, second prize is $300, and third prize is $100.
Funding for the competition is provided in part through the
generosity of the Mushroom Festival, Inc. and the Kennett Run
Charities.
The competition is chaired by Paul and Irena Merluzzi. For further

Joining us will be a small business, Eppy's Bar-B-Que, on-site to serve up hot fare for all! Enjoy rides in an authentic Stanley Steamer or aboard the Auburn Valley Railroad's two coal-fired 1/8-size steam trains. Attend the Firing Up Demonstration to learn how a Stanley is set in motion. Enjoy free steam-popped popcorn from the museum's vintage Cretor's popper or warm up with a cup of hot chocolate. And take advantage of the last opportunity to see the Smithsonian exhibit The Way We Worked at the Marshall Steam Museum (made possible by the Delaware Humanities Forum). Entry to the museum, which houses the world's largest operating collection of Stanley Steamers, a display of 1930s Lionel electric trains and an interactive exhibit, What's under the Hood: How a Stanley Steam Car Works, is included with all admission levels. Operated by the Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve (FAHP) in partnership with Delaware State Parks, the Marshall Steam Museum features the world's largest operating collection of Stanley steam cars, plus two 1930s Packards, a 1909 White steamer, and a 1916 Rauch and Lang electric car. Danaher & Cloud believe that in every life there is a story, and in every story there is a song. Their roots and inspiration are rich and diverse, from Irish master storyteller Eamon Kelly to country music's legendary Marty Stuart. Original songs from their award-winning recordings intermingle with an eclectic repertoire of Americana music and just plain funny stories of everyman and everywoman, played with mastery on a variety of instruments and sung brilliantly from the heart.
You start with Amy Cloud’s insightful and adept songwriting, her haunting melodies and stylistic diversity. Add Kate Danaher's unconventional artistry on the violin or viola, and Amy’s solid rhythmic anchor on her ever-growing collection of instruments. Add their vocals, a blend rich and refined, but still soulful. It could be called Americana music. But then add their stories and their banter. And what you have is an experience like no other, in concert or on record, where each story, each song, is a journey unto itself.
Over the years they have entertained at festivals and concert stages, including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Appel Farm Arts and Music Center, Kennett Flash, The Kimmel Center, and the Colony Café in Woodstock, New York. Danaher and Cloud have opened for top names on the Americana and folk music circuit, including The Chieftains, Maria Muldaur, and Eric Andersen. They have honed their craft and found their niche in Americana music, which is inspired by America’s ever-changing musical landscape. Their diverse backgrounds combine to produce programs and recordings that are difficult to describe but nonetheless remarkable. Sometimes it’s a song, sometimes it’s a story, but it’s always a good time.
