Pinot and Pumpkin Painting @ Pinot's Palette

On Tuesday, October 11 from 7 to 9pm, CFHS is kicking off fall at Pinot's Palette!   Try your hand at designing your own painted pumpkin to take home, while enjoying complimentary wine and light snacks and great company.  Proceeds from this event benefit the Chadds Ford Historical Society.

The Candlelight Christmas Tour, sponsored by Chadds Ford Historical Society, is a must see event during the holiday season!  Enjoy touring some of the most picturesque sites in the Brandywine Valley for our 31st Annual Candlelight Christmas Tour.

The holiday tour features distinct properties in and around the historic Chadds Ford and Pennsbury Townships.  Historic sites will be candlelit and filled with exquisite holiday decor and will offer special holiday programs.  Guides will be on hand the day of the tour to highlight each sites' unique history, architecture, and decor.

After picking up your holiday pass and map at the Barn Visitor Center, attendees are free to begin their self-guided tour of the numerous participating historic sites, churches, and museums.  You can go at your own pace, either challenging yourself to reach all the stops or spending more time at the places you enjoy most.  Feel free to approach the stops in any order.  The sites selected for the tour truly showcase the diverse character of the beautiful Brandywine Valley.

Tavern Talks: Chocolate & Courtship

The Chadds Ford Historical Society kicks off another year of Tavern Talks with "Chocolate & Courtship"! If you are looking to bring dating back to the basics - 300-year-old basics - then you will not want to miss out.

Guests will have the opportunity to sample edible "aphrodisiacs", learn how to compose a love letter from a calligrapher, watch chocolate-making demonstrations by Mars' American Heritage Chocolate, and more!

Tavern Talks is a monthly experience (not a lecture!) aimed exclusively for adults 21 and older that focuses on fun topics in early American culture. Guests will experience history with hands-on activities, food and drink tastings, demonstrations and more!Tickets must be purchased in advance over the phone, in person at the Society or online as space is limited. All attendeees must be 21 and older.

Chadds Ford Days began as a way to commemorate the Battle of Brandywine that was fought on September 11, 1777.   This important battle played a pivotal role in shaping our nation's future.   Although the battle was lost, it helped improve military tactics that resulted in winning the War for Independence and saving America.

As the years went by, the Chadds Ford Days festival grew to include over 60 of the region's finest craftsmen and colonial demonstrators, Revolutionary War reenactors, an array of culinary fare from local restaurants and food trucks, brewers and vintners, antique cars, children's activities, live music, special exhibits, historic tours of the John Chads House and so much more.  We invite you to join us for our 52nd annual festival!

Paint Out Chadds Ford: A Plein Air Event

Saturday, February 3, 2018 - Reception & Wet Paint Sale from 6 to 8pm

The Chadds Ford Historical Society is hosting its 10th annual Plein Air art event, Paint Out Chadds Ford.  From February 1 to 3, 2018, artists from the Mid-Atlantic region will be painting outside around the Chadds Ford area as well as at the Barns Brinton House, John Chads House and along Brandywine Creek.

The Society will host a special art exhibition at the CFHS Barn Visitors Center that will be open on Saturday evening, February 3. From 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. there will be an Artist Reception and Wet Paint Sale, where guests can view and purchase artwork made during the event. Tickets are $15 per person ($30 for Chadds Ford Historical Society members) and includes light refreshments. Guests can view and purchase displays of the work just completed by the artists for the plein air event as well as other plein air paintings of the Brandywine Valley.

Please help support local artists by joining us for this fun event that steps back into time when early American illustrators and painters such as Howard Pyle, Bayard Berndt, and N.C. Wyeth were inspired by the beauty of our region and painted outdoors.

The Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Tavern Talks will kick off its third season on Thursday, February 15th from 7-9 p.m. with “Chocolate and Courtship”. If you are looking to bring dating back to the basics – 300-year-old basics – then you will not want to miss out!

Guests will have the opportunity to watch chocolate-making demonstrations by Mars’ AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate’s very own Chocolate Historian David Borghesani, receive courtship advice from General George Washington (portrayed by Carl Closs), learn about dating in the Colonial period from historical novel writer Susan Holloway Scott, delight in historical chocolate pairings, and more!

Tavern Talks is a monthly experience (not a lecture!) aimed exclusively for adults 21 and older that focuses on unexplored aspects of early American history and culture. Guests will experience history with hands-on activities, food and drink tastings, demonstrations, and more. Tavern Talks takes place at the Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Barns Brinton House, an historic 1714 tavern, located next to the Chaddsford Winery at 630 Baltimore Pike. Admission is $20 for non-members and $15 for members. Tickets must be purchased in advance over the phone, in person or online as space is limited. All attendees must be 21 and older.
