Heron Studio Announces its 19th Annual Show and Sale

Two weekends Friday and Saturday fifteen Artists Showcase their Work

Heron Studio's 19th Annual Show and Sale in Aston, PA is an open studio event featuring the seven resident artists of Heron Studios and eight guest artists. The opening night party will be Friday, November 11th from 6 pm-9 pm.  On November 12-13 and 19-20 the show will be open from 11 am to 5 pm. The shows' visitors will be delighted to see the artists' inspiring studio spaces and get to meet the artists themselves who create these wonderful things in their various chosen mediums.

The building in Rockdale is a historic gem on Mount Road. It has been continuously occupied since its construction in the 1830s. Visitors to the art show and sale can see that very little of the building's structure has changed since it was first used as a textile factory. A walker traveling along the Chester Creek in Rockdale, Pennsylvania in 1830 would have seen busy factories spinning raw materials into yarns and string. The factory floor would have had many women learning their crafts, teaching others, and perfecting the efficiency of the machines of the Industrial Revolution.

Today, one of these factories is the home of many artists, who like their 18th century brothers and sisters, are perfecting their craft and exploring the limits of their art. Like the workers of the early days, Heron Studio artists not only work on their own craft, but help their studio mates reach the goals of their own work. The building's large, tall windows allow the light so desired by artists everywhere. The thick, strong beams made it possible for individual studios and display spaces to be created in the vast floor space of the old factory. The surrounding landscape with a creek, trees, flowers, and wildlife, has a look of untouched wildness and beauty that creates an inspiring backdrop for the creation of art.

The seven artists of Heron Studios work in various mediums and styles.

Mary Gordon's oil paintings continue to evolve as the long horizontal format captures her imagination. Her new paintings yield physical clues to man’s hand in transforming the Midwestern farm landscape. These images evoke conflicting ideas for continuing current interventions in our natural world.

Mixed media artist, Marion Kassab, explores the theme of repetitive forms in sculpture and in clay prints.

John Moser offers beautiful live-edge furniture in a variety of wood species.  He takes great pride in his craftsmanship and strives to produce quality furniture at a fair and honest price.  These live-edge pieces are perfect for everyone's style because each piece is totally unique in shape, size, and color.

Lorri Primavera's signature style has evolved by mixing simple jewelry elements that are bohemian, traditional, and eclectic. Inspired by nature, paintings, and sculpture, her limited edition necklaces, bracelets, and earrings evoke classic yet modern themes. Using freshwater pearls, leather, stones, and sterling in surprising juxtapositions, she creates a powerful, sophisticated, and very wearable look.

Jane Porter's fall collection includes a new series of handwoven fair trade scarves dyed with natural dyes.

Contemporary sculptor Amy Ralston combines natural and man-made objects in unexpected ways, eliciting thought-provoking and visceral reactions.

Sean Roach’s oil paintings explore contemporary landscapes, people and still life.

In addition to the seven resident Heron Studio artists, eight invited artists will again fill the gallery with their wonderful work.

Ceramicist Ann Suchecki puts hand carving or brushwork on her salt and wood fired functional shapes.  Joel Marcus crafts one of a kind ukuleles using inlay and marquetry.  Emilie Cole exhibits her wire wrapped jewelry.  Shelley Creech incorporates collage in her two-dimensional mixed media paintings.     Ceramicist and sculptor Bob Deane will present his current works in clay.  Penny Emery makes one-of-a-kind functional ceramic pieces that combine throwing, hand building and distinctive glazing.   Kathy McCarron creates amazing detailed felted animals from wool that will delight your senses.

To honor artist Lisa Sparling, there will be a special posthumous showing of her paintings and prints.

Guitar and mandolin music will fill the air on opening night.  Musical artists include Silvio Navarro and Jacob Brewer.  They will soften the atmosphere with their acoustic guitar music.  Graham Brewer and Adam Monico will play mandolin adding another texture to the air.   During the weekend, Swukestra (Swarthmore Ukulele Orchestra) brings their magical sound to our studios.

Bring your friends and family to see, hear and experience the art event of the year!  Heron Studios is located at 739 Mount Road in Aston, PA.  The GPS cross streets are Red Hill Road and Mount Road.

The Unionville Art Gala is the largest group art show of the season, starting this Friday November 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday November 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This wonderful art show includes 70 professional and 50 student artists, with myriad artistic mediums including, painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, wood carving and ceramics, as well as an art  silent auction, all benefitting the education programs at Unionville High School at 750 Unionville Road in Kennett Square.
