2020 Chester County Studio Tour Dates
Saturday September 19, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Sunday September 20, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
2020 Chester County Studio Tour features 135 artists in 55 studios
Celebrating 10 years of Engaging in the Arts on September 19 & 20
SAFETY HIGHLIGHTS
- The majority of our studios are private – so visitors are not present where hundreds of people have been.
- The layout of our studios lend themselves to easy social distancing practices, and all offer outstanding safety procedures including but not limited to hand sanitizer stations as well as the sanitizing of surfaces.
- We are monitoring the current situation in Pennsylvania daily as it continues to evolve and following all state guidelines. We are committed to the safety and well being of our artists and patrons.
Ten years ago, two artists opened their studios. Each artist invited five artists to share their creative space in hopes the community would come and support the arts. This event later grew to include 12 studios and 25 artists. It officially became a two-day event with signs, banners, and a catalogue highlighting the artists on the tour. Over the past 10 years we have shown over 354 local artists, weathered the elements, and furnished many homes with art, while inspiring new artists to join us. This year we can truly celebrate a decade of bringing the arts to Chester County. Nothing is better for those who love great art and collect great art, than these two days in May, this year we’ve moved the tour to two wonderful days in September.
“After 10 years of organizing the Studio Tour, I am amazed at the talent that keeps popping up in Chester County! We have many new and outstanding artists joining us, along with our stable of artists who create something new every year for the tour,” said Jeff Schaller, artist and show coordinator. “This year the public will have a unique opportunity to see artist demonstrations at the participating studios. The tour has something for everyone, from the first-time art buyer to the seasoned collector, in a wide range of mediums and prices. This year, I’m also excited to share “Find 5.” If you don’t have time to make a weekend out of it, visit our website and click “Find 5!” We’ll find you the five closest studios to you, so you can get your creativity on nearby.”
This year, 135 artists in 55 studios will safely exhibit different mediums, such as painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, clay, glass, paper and fiber. Many studios have large properties allowing artists and collectors to social distance. All the artists will be wearing masks while on hand to share their studios, discuss their work, and meet buyers and browsers alike.
The 2020 Chester County Studio Tour is proudly sponsored by Citadel Federal Credit Union, the tour is free and open to the public on Saturday, September 19, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 20, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Please visit www.chestercountystudiotour.com for a map, artist and studio listings, and the catalogue. Handicapped accessible studios are marked on the studio pages in the catalogue and on the website. Email [email protected] or call 610.942.9629 for further information.
Visitors are encouraged to design their own self-guided tour with our new interactive website. By visiting www.chestercountystudiotour.com., visitors can now click the “Add to Itinerary” button of their “must see” artists, and have Google Maps plot the most efficient route, providing turn-by-turn directions to each chosen studio. Tolsdorf Oil Lube Express has generously sponsored this option. For those short on time, we have designed “Find 5!” which will find the five closest studios for the visitor. Members of the public can also start with a studio close to their starting point, or anywhere they like, by using a convenient map graciously sponsored by FIG Industries.
The County Collector Series, sponsored by Otto’s Mini & Otto’s BMW, will be offered again in 2020. The public can collect an original framed 6” x 6” piece of art for the special price of $75. Two-dimensional artists have created original works of art in a simple and elegant 6” x 6” frame, and three-dimensional artists have created special pieces for the County Collector Series. A photo of each work in this series is included in the catalogue and displayed on the website.

2020 Kennett Brewfest – Backyard Edition
Chester County schedules tree seedling giveaway
COVID-19 may have forced the cancelation of Earth Day celebrations back in April, but taking care of the environment and preserving the planet is a year-round goal in Chester County. As a result, Earth Day celebrations are continuing into the fall, as the Chester County Conservation District and Chester County Parks & Preservation give away seedling trees to County residents.
Tree giveaways on Friday, October 16, 2020 will take place simultaneously from 12:00 noon to 5:00pm at Willowdale Veterinary Center in Kennett Square (property adjacent to East Marlborough Township building) and at Warwick County Park near Pottstown. A second tree giveaway will be held on Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Exton Park.
"Chester County’s recognition of Earth Day 2020 earlier this year was planned to be bigger than ever before, with events and volunteer opportunities happening throughout the region,” said Chris Strohmaier, Director of the Chester County Conservation District. “But the COVID-19 pandemic and the stay at home orders in April prevented all public events from taking place. So, rather than cancel, Chester County reorganized and rescheduled some of the celebrations, including this tree giveaway.”
A variety of trees will be available including a mix of maples, birches, redbuds, poplars, sycamores and oaks. The trees are available while supplies last with a limit of one tree per family.

Andy Hirneisen, Penn State Extension Food Safety Educator, will also be sharing his top tips for preparing the juiciest birds (besides buying local!), which will get us all on the right track for the holidays. Drexel University is offering a virtual presentation tonight for their Fall Distinguished Psychology Alumni Lecture Series on Wednesday, November 11, from 5:30pm-6:30pm, to be delivered by Deni Carise, Ph.D.
Dr. Carise is a Double Dragon, having earned her bachelor’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Drexel/ Hahnemann University. She currently holds the title of Chief Science Officer at Recovery Centers of America. https://recoverycentersofamerica.com/about/leadership/deni-carise/
Her talk is titled: The New “Triple Threat”: Methamphetamine, Opioids and Covid-19
Summary: Lethality, availability and use of stimulants have greatly increased in the US in past years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that overdose deaths have more than tripled for cocaine and increased nearly five-fold for methamphetamine since 2012. With more than 100 deaths every day in this country attributed to opioid overdose, there is understandable – and much appreciated – attention to this issue. A significant increase in overdose death rates from synthetic opioids such as fentanyl and its analogues make it very clear that we must continue to address the threat from the opioids in this country. These two major drug problems, and our field, are now impacted by an unprecedented 3rd threat in this country, that of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the time of this writing, more than 8 million Americans have tested positive for Covid-19 and over 220,000 people have dies of this disease. Individuals struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) or those in recovery may find COVID-19 and the non-medical impacts of COVID-19 more difficult than the general population. Individuals with SUD are more vulnerable to getting COVID-19 and more likely to have severe cases when they do get it. There has been an increase in substance use for those with a period of remission, particularly those with 3-12 months in recovery. Social isolation has led to increases in depression, anxiety, domestic violence, and other mental health disorders. With this “triple threat” of opioids, stimulants, and Covid-19, we need to rethink how we assess, support, and deliver treatment to those with SUD. This is particularly true for cocaine and amphetamines as there is no “gold standard” of treatment and no effect medications available.
