Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc., in partnership with the Downingtown-Thorndale Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the Downingtown Christmas Parade this Saturday, December 11th at 3:00 pm.
Participants in this year’s parade include: Downingtown Blue and Gold Marching Band, Bishop Shanahan Marching Band, Duffy String Band, Penn Dixie Band and Galena Brass. In addition, there will be floats, walking units, dance and twirling units, fire trucks, and more.
“And of course, no Christmas parade is complete without Santa and Mrs. Claus coming to town on a sleigh,” said Dianne Plaugher, chair of Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc.
The parade route is on Lancaster Avenue (Business Route 30) and it begins in the area of Gable Avenue and travels east along a 1.5-mile stretch of Lancaster Avenue and ends at Whiteland Avenue, said Plaugher.
Downingtown police have announced that all major roadways through Downingtown Borough will be detoured. Motorists are urged to avoid delays and use the Route 30 Bypass as an alternate for East and West traffic. The Christmas Parade should be completed by 5 p.m. and all roadways re-opened.
“The Downingtown-Thorndale Regional Chamber of Commerce who partners with Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc. to present the parade, is honored to take part and support such a wonderful community event”, said Patti McComsey, Chamber President.
“We would like to thank our sponsors, who without their contributions the parade would not be possible,” Plaugher said. “In addition, we are grateful for the support provided by the Borough of Downingtown elected officials and staff, public works, police department and area file police.”
“Volunteers from Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas, Inc. meet year-round with monthly planning meetings, fundraising events, float decorating and much more, so that we can present an outstanding parade”, said Plaugher.”
Enjoy old and new favorites during this special holiday concert. The two-part program amplifies messages of diversity and hope for this festive season. Holiday works composed and arranged by musicians of color round out this concert.
