Andrew Wyeth: Looking Out, Looking In
Lecture and Book Signing
July 23, Lecture at 6 p.m., followed by book signing and reception
Andrew Wyeth: Looking Out, Looking In, a major exhibition on view at the National Gallery of Art through November 30, presents an enlightening and entirely new approach to Wyeth’s work that investigates the artist’s fascination with windows, and considers Wyeth’s own statement that he was an “abstract artist.” Nancy Anderson, curator and head of the department of American and British paintings, and associate curator Charles Brock, from the National Gallery of Art, will present a lecture followed by a catalogue signing. The richly illustrated catalogue, co-authored by Anderson and Brock, is available in the museum shop or online. Cost for the event is $20; members, $15.
Anson B. Nixon Park Summer Concert Series
Free concerts are held on Wednesday evenings in the summer from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. in a beautiful setting overlooking the pond. Bring a blanket or folding chair. Museum Explorer Mornings

Introduce children to art this summer. Participate in one or all five of these workshops designed for children ages 3 to 10 accompanied by an adult. Each program will include a thematic, interactive guided tour followed by a creative art project. Two sessions will be held each day: Session A: 10 a.m. or Session B: 11 a.m. Workshops are free with regular museum admission. Annual Peoples’ Festival 4Peace Tribute to Bob Marley

This popular one-day festival, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, is a tribute to former Wilmington resident, Bob Marley. Held in Tubman Garret Riverfront Park from noon until 10PM, the festival features live music on two stages with performances by Third World, I-Octane, Mutabaruk and eight other bands. Kids ages 3 and up will love showing off their patriotic spirit this summer by creating festive red, white and blue crafts that are perfect for gift giving, décor and fashion accessories. Ladies' Night Out Workshop: Fused Glass Pendants

For Adults. Get your friends together or come out and make new friends while discovering the art of fusing glass into rich, colorful pendants to be used in necklaces, earrings and broaches. Students will learn the basic techniques of cutting glass, assembling designs and fusing them at high temperatures in a kiln. Students will create several pieces each, using Art Glass and Dichroic Glass.

Bring the family and join us for a fun-filled day celebrating local history and life at the dawn of the automotive age featuring train rides in scaled locomotives and rides in historic automobiles. AREA YMCAS OPEN DOORS FOR FREE
TRY THE Y TUESDAYS
YMCA of the Brandywine Valley and YMCA of the Upper Main Line are opening the doors of all their branches to the public, free of charge, every Tuesday during the month of August - August 5, 12, 19 and 26.
Chester County residents are welcome to enjoy the pools, state-of-the-art cardio and fitness centers, gymnasiums, cycle studios, and group exercise classes. Free entry also includes unique amenities, such as the 24 tennis courts at Upper Main Line Y or the climbing tower and skateboard park at the Kennett Y.
All nine branches – Brandywine Y, Coatesville; Jennersville Y, West Grove; Kennett Area Y, Kennett Square; Lionville Community Y, Exton; Octorara Program Center, Atglen; Oscar Lasko Youth Program Center, downtown West Chester; Upper Main Line Y, Berwyn; West Chester Area Y, West Chester; and Y at Great Valley, Malvern – will be open and available free of charge to anyone new to the area, considering a membership or just curious to see and use the facilities.
