The Delaware Museum of Natural History is offering kids (and parents) a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday rush with Holiday Nature camp on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Campers at Holiday Nature Camp will create festive crafts inspired by nature, play games, and venture outdoors to track down winter animals before exploring our special exhibit, Ice Age Imperials! The museum will also host a day of "Savings & Songs" on Dec. 14 with member discounts in the Museum Store and the Hopewell Elementary School choir performing throughout the galleries. Enjoy a Fun-Filled Program for the Whole Family This December
Yorklyn, Delaware -- November 2013 -- As the holiday approaches, what can be better than hot chocolate, crafting, and of course TRAINS! For two days only, the Marshall Steam Museum will host an Old-Fashioned Holiday program on December 11, from 6 to 9 pm, and December 14, from 1 to 4 pm. Join us in celebrating the coming of winter with an old-fashioned twist.
Explore the Marshall Steam Museum decorated for the holidays. Join us for story time with special volunteer readings of The Night Before Christmas and The Polar Express. Get crafty with special Victorian and train-inspired holiday crafts and activities to make and take home. Take a hot chocolate break and then watch the electric trains. Experience what traveling was like during the early automotive age while viewing our special photo exhibit Snow Travelers: Experiencing Winter at the Dawn of the Automotive Age and of course more!
Pre-Registration is required to reserve a spot; admission will be charged at the Marshall Steam Museum entrance the day of the program.
Admission: $3 FAHP members, $4 non-members.
Please note that during this special holiday program the Auburn Heights mansion will be closed, and there will be no train or auto rides.

About the Marshall Steam Museum
Operated by the Friends of Auburn Heights Preserve (FAHP) in partnership with Delaware State Parks, the Marshall Steam Museum features the world's largest operating collection of Stanley steam cars, plus two 1930s Packards, a 1909 White steamer, and a 1916 Rauch and Lang electric car. The mission of FAHP is to educate the public firsthand about an American way of life that flourished at the dawn of the automotive age and to preserve historic steam automobile technology by teaching the practical skills of operating and maintaining steam cars.

There is more to this trio than meets the eye! A wall of sound is created by 3 musicians playing hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, Celtic harp, 5-string viola, pennywhistle, mandolin, guitar, bodhran, spoons, chalumeau, bouzouki, and 3-part vocals. Ever changing and incredibly diverse, Slyte of Hand continually morphs the music into breathtaking arrangements and pure stellar musicianship.
Michele McCann has been named as the “2013 Emerging Artist of the Year for Folk Arts – Music” as declared by the Delaware Division of the Arts. Michele is a professional musician performing regionally and throughout the US on rare and unusual instruments including the hurdy-gurdy, pennywhistle, spoons, bodhran (Irish drum), chalumeau (French boxwood clarinet), guitar, and many others.
Jon Kmetz plays the bagpipe, 5-string viola, and guitar. He resides in Baltimore, and teaches English as a Second Language in Baltimore City Public Schools. Additionally Jon is an Ordained Deacon, and serves as a Musical Pastor in his church.
Bill Russell performs on the celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, guitar, bouzouki, banjo, mandolin, and other stringed instruments. He arranges most of the music for Slyte of Hand. He is an Adjunct Professor of Forensic & Biomedical Photography at Drexel University’s College of Medicine, and also a Photographer. His performance roots stretch over many years and bands including Canyon renowned throughout the east-coast.

Times Square has a ball drop to bring in the new year, but Kennett Square will now have the Mushroom Drop. The first-ever Mushroom Drop — with a 8 foot-by-7.5 foot mushroom — is scheduled for this New Year’s Eve. It’s part of the main event for Midnight in the Square, a new event in the borough. There will be music, food, and fun for everyone from 9 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 31 to 1 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 1. All events are on Broad Street and in the American Legion Building, between State and Cypress streets. Admission is the donation of a non-perishable item or canned good. All donations will be given to the Kennett Food Cupboard.

Family Holiday Workshop
January 4, 10 a.m. to 12 noon
Families will have fun searching for items in the museum's train and doll displays and create train- and doll-themed crafts. Free for members and included in museum admission.
Prepare for the Season 4 Premiere on Sunday, January 5, 2014 with a special Downton Abbey Tea including live entertainment and tables dressed with specialty lace linens. On this day only, guests are also encouraged to wear early 1900’s Period Dress. Guests will enjoy a three-course tea service, and can choose from a variety of teas including the new, Hotel du Pont Centennial Blend, a hearty black tea infused with hints of pineapple, the symbol of hospitality. Tea service begins at 3:30pm and is $34/person.
