| Winterthur’s Annual Delaware Antiques Show, November 11–13
60 Exceptional dealers to display and sell at the Chase Center on the Riverfront One of the nation’s most acclaimed shows of antiques, art, and design, the Delaware Antiques Show returns to the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, November 11–13. The Show features more than 60 of the country’s most distinguished dealers in American antiques, furniture, paintings, rugs, porcelain, silver, jewelry, and other decorative arts. From the newest collector to the most knowledgeable connoisseur, there is something for everyone. Tickets include lectures, book signings, and admission to the Show and to Winterthur November 11–13. Highlights include a keynote lecture presented by famed designers Ashley Whittaker and Christopher Spitzmiller on November 11 at 10:00 a.m.
Young Scholars lectures, sponsored by The Decorative Arts Trust, take place on Saturday, November 12 at 2:00 pm. These lectures are presented by recent Lois F. McNeil Fellows from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture, a joint graduate program of Winterthur and the University of Delaware. Unionville High School Art Gala celebrates its 46th year. The annual art show and sale to be held November 11 from 6-9 p.m. and November 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Unionville High School, showcases local working artists, Unionville High School (UHS) Alumni, and current UHS student artists. In addition to beautiful artwork, there is live music to entertain and delicious desserts to enjoy. Funds raised will benefit the UHS PTO, contributing to Educational Enrichment Projects to enhance the overall educational experience for all UHS students. In addition, funds will help make local community outreach efforts possible.
The Unionville High School Art Gala strives to include a variety of artists - both new and more established individuals. Approximately 70 participating artists express their talents though diverse mediums including oil and watercolor paintings, photography, glass, metal, pastels, mixed media, jewelry, ceramics, mosaics, and wood.
This year’s Featured Artist is Temre Stanchfield. Temre draws inspiration for her work from the natural world, painting flower, plant and landscape imagery as a means of highlighting the perennial life cycle. She explains that painting is a conversation about renewal in her studio, and she uses abstract elements to explore this conversation. Temre’s current work focuses on the local landscape of the Brandywine Valley region, combining texture with oil on birch panels or canvas, as well as studies on paper.
Temre studied classical figure painting at the University of Puget Sound in Washington State, in Florence, Italy, and at the University of Arizona. She is a frequent exhibitor in art shows, galleries and festivals throughout southern Pennsylvania and Delaware, including, most recently, the distinguished Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show in Philadelphia. Temre paints in her studio in southern Chester County.
The Art Gala also includes a Student Art section which highlights the impressive artistic talents nurtured by the outstanding UHS Art Department. In addition to approximately 175 student artists, students who demonstrate particularly refined and distinct talents are selected as Featured Student Artists each year. This year’s Featured Student Artists will be announced at the end of October.
A Silent Auction will be offered to the public, featuring beautiful artwork donated by the talented artists in the show as well as select regional activities and outings. The Silent Auction will be online at https://www.32auctions.com/unionvilleartgala2022 throughout the weekend of November 11-13. Donations to the silent auction along with business sponsorships are key components to the success of the Gala. A delight for hard-core Trekkies and casual fans alike, this once-in-a-lifetime exhibit is a chance to peer behind the curtain and see some of the most iconic props from the Star Trek universe. A Members Only Exhibit Preview and Speakers’ Series accompany the exhibit. All events will be conducted via Zoom. You can participate onsite at the museum or by using your computer off-site. Leadership Series Year-End Finale Will Feature World Renowned George Washington Interpreter Brian Hilton As He Discusses How To Use The Teaching Of Washington In Modern Times
The Washington Memorial Heritage and Indispensable Leadership (LLC) are excited to announce their “Historical Holiday Celebration” featuring world renowned George Washington Interpreter Brian Hilton on Thursday, December 8 at 6 PM at the Washington Memorial Chapel.
As the culmination to their year-long “Lead Like George” leadership series, this special evening will give audiences the opportunity to “meet” Washington and learn about his role, up to and during the Constitutional Convention, as he is interviewed by Indispensable Leadership’s David Cross. Attendees will also discover how Washington’s leadership style changed throughout the years and how his relationships with his contemporaries, helped pave his way to the Presidency. James Madison Interpreter Kyle Jenks will also join the discussion to provide his insight into Washington’s rise to becoming of one the greatest leaders of our nation.
This engaging and highly-insightful event will not only weave together all of the teachings from the past 11 leadership sessions but it will also provide insight into how to translate Washington’s leadership into today’s modern society.
Immediately following the discussion, guests are invited to chat with Washington and Madison while they enjoy complimentary wine and cheese.
Hilton, who has been portraying Washington for nearly 25 years, is the pre-eminent George Washington interpreter in the country. He has appeared at many illustrious events including three Road Scholar Events this past summer in Washington, D.C.; several George Washington Birthday Parades in Alexandria, VA; and The Center For Education Reform.
