Keynote Speaker Brigadier General Maureen Weigl
The Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce will hold its
7th Annual Inspirational Breakfast on Tuesday, May 24, beginning at 7:30 am at The Mendenhall Inn in Mendenhall, PA. The springtime signature event features an inspiring theme with patriotic components. The keynote speaker, Brigadier General Maureen Weigl, will present a powerful presentation entitled “Together We Serve.”
Brigadier General Weigl is Pennsylvania’s Deputy Adjutant General for Veterans Affairs. In this position, she supervises the administration of state veterans’ programs, reintegration and outreach, and veteran initiatives for nearly 800,000 veterans and their dependents. General Weigl also oversees operation of the Commonwealth’s six veterans’ homes & ensures compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations related to nursing home care, and, acts as the agency liaison between federal, state and local government agencies and veterans' organizations on all matters concerning veterans in PA. Weigl is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Project Manager, Executive Leadership Coach, and member of the American Legion.
Brigadier General Weigl retired from the Army in May 2016 after serving for 25 years. Since her retirement, she has started her own woman-owned/service-disabled Veteran-owned small business, Pro Rec Resource Solutions, LLC, where she provides government consulting, talent management, & recruiting services. She also continues to serve Veterans by partnering with clothing manufacturers to make adjustable clothing for Veterans and others with prosthetic limbs. Brigadier General Weigl’s service and dedication are impactful and will be sure to influence all in attendance.
The event includes a Coffee Reception with Reception Sponsor, Qnectus, followed by a formal sit-down breakfast and program with Presenting Sponsor, Constellation Energy. Special guests include the American Legion Color Guard of Kennett Square Post 00491, led by John DiMatteo, Corporal, United States Marine Corp and local business owner and Chamber member, The National Anthem, performed by Leon R. Spencer, Jr., the Chamber’s 2016 Outstanding Citizen of the Year, and “TAPS” performed by Bill Anderson of Grieco Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
The Unionville High School Art Department will host a Student Art Show and Coffeehouse on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Unionville High School. Visitors will enjoy an evening of live music and light refreshments, and will experience the amazing work of UHS student artists from grades 9-12. Admission is free.
The UHS Student Art Show Committee is pleased to announce that Josie Tucker has been selected as the 2021-2022 Featured Senior Artist for the show. Additionally, Jessica Hall has been awarded 1st Honorable Mention and Mariel DiNatale has been awarded 2nd Honorable Mention. Local artist and Student Art Show Committee Member Sarah Snyder-Dinsel says “I am constantly amazed at the caliber of art work created by UHS students. It is a pleasure to view their work, and our decision is never an easy one.”

Delaware County Community College and Hedgerow Theatre Company have joined together to produce William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, to be performed at 8 p.m., August 3–6 on the outdoor stage at the College’s Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA 19063.
General admission is $15, and tickets can be purchased online at dccc.edu/theatre and in-person the evening of the performance. Attendees are invited to bring chairs and blankets as well as refreshments to enjoy during the performance on the lawn under the stars in the courtyard.
Twelfth Night is the College’s second annual summer Shakespeare production and is directed by Associate Professor of Drama Stephen Smith, with music composed and performed by retired Assistant Professor of Music Joseph Nocella. In collaboration with Hedgerow Theatre, Delaware County Community College student actors worked side-by-side with professional theatre artists for this production, which includes several graduates of the College’s Theatre Program!
After the production concludes on the Marple Campus, Twelfth Night will continue its run at Hedgerow Theatre Company, August 12–28. To learn more about those performances visit hedgerowtheatre.org.

AHMEC is excited to present a unique collection of screen-used and production-made artifacts from Garrett Derr, Jr., of Project Stardate. Items that span decades include costumes, weapons, communicators, even pieces of the starship Enterprise! A delight for hard-core Trekkies and casual fans alike, this once-in-a-lifetime exhibit is a chance to peer behind the curtain and see some of the most iconic props from the Star Trek universe.
A Members Only Exhibit Preview and Speakers’ Series accompany the exhibit. It features legendary Prop Designer Michael Moore discussing his over 30 years of experience in the film and entertainment industry, specializing in prop fabrication and consumer product prototyping. He’s worked on multiple blockbusters, including the Star Trek franchise, and The Hobbit Trilogy, as well as cult classics, such as “Beetlejuice,” “Gremlins 2,” and “Re-Animator.”

A collection of items from one of the most iconic programs in television history comes to the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center (AHMEC). Beginning Friday, September 9, and continuing through Sunday, November 27, “Star Trek Screen-Used Props and Costumes” offers a unique collection of screen-used and production-made artifacts that span decades, including costumes, weapons, communicators, even pieces of the starship Enterprise!
“We are extremely thrilled to present this amazing assortment of items that incorporates the many worlds of Star Trek. You don’t need to be a Trekkie or know about each different cast and crew to appreciate this exhibit,” said Paul Kahan, AHMEC’s Executive Director. “People of all ages and interests will appreciate the creativity, imagination, and skill that encompassed everything that made Star Trek great.”
Opening the exhibit is a “Museum Member’s Only” Sneak Preview with legendary prop designer Michael Moore on Thursday, September 8, from 7:00 until 8:30 pm via Zoom. Moore has over 30 years of experience in the film and entertainment industry, specializing in prop fabrication and consumer product prototyping. He’s worked on multiple blockbusters, including the Star Trek franchise and The Hobbit Trilogy, as well as cult classics like Beetlejuice, Gremlins 2, and Re-Animator.
“Some of the highlights are the famous blue shirt costume worn by Jonathan Frakes in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, ‘Angel One’,” Kahan continued, “a type-3 phaser, or phaser rifle as it’s also known, from the film, Star Trek: Nemesis, and a gold operations uniform from the television series, Star Trek: Voyager. We have about 40 items that will intrigue everyone.”
The exhibit also features an accompanying Speaker’s Series via Zoom that costs $25.00 per event (members are free) with five authors: Nancy Reagin (Star Trek and History) on September 15, A.J. Black (Star Trek, History, and Us) on September 24, Lawrence Krauss (The Physics of Star Trek) on October 19, Daniel Chavkin and Brian McGuire (Star Trek: Designing the Final Frontier) on November 2, and Sherilyn Connelly (The First Star Trek Movie: Bringing the Franchise to the Big Screen) on November 16. Participation is available onsite at the museum or with a personal device off-site.

The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center, located at 1220 American Boulevard, West Chester, is the nation’s premier aviation museum devoted exclusively to helicopters. The Chadds Ford Historical Society will host the Battle of Chadds Ford/Historic Chadds Ford Days on Sept. 10 and 11. Re-enactors, military and civilian, will be on hand both days with skirmish re-enactments and demonstrations of colonial-era crafts. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 7-17, and free for kids younger than 7 and for CFHS members.
