CCArts transforms outdoor field into a marketplace of fine handcrafted gifts & delicious food once a month to support local artists and food vendors.
The Center for the Creative Arts launches a monthly outdoor market on Sunday, May 2, 2021 11am-3pm. “It is our hope that this farmers market meets artisan show will become a community gathering place that nourishes people’s bodies and spirits with food and art,” says Jennifer Hartz, CCArts Program Director and Market Coordinator. “When Jennifer brought this idea to one of our staff meetings, I was really excited to support it. We have heard from so many of our working artist colleagues that 2020 and the beginning of 2021 has been a difficult time since so many shows have been cancelled,” stated Melissa Paolercio CCArts Executive Director. “Art shows and craft fairs are a huge revenue driver for so many local artists. We knew we wanted to do our part to support them and what better way to invite our community back to campus then with a socially-distanced outdoor event.”
“The majority of the vendors are Delaware-based and will be selling handmade fine art and crafts including ceramics, jewelry, felting, turned wood, painting and more. There will also be food vendors selling baked goods and local honey,” says Hartz.
Artists include: Stephanie Atkins (Mink’s Signature Foods & Desserts), Elisabeth Bard, Zachary Bloom (Zachary Bloom Jewelry Designs), Damaris Colon (London Rock Art), Sue Ann Cox (The Fairy Potter), Christina Fabris and Joseph Csoltko (Iris and Callisto’s Apiary), Pam Horstmann (Painted Threads), Bethann C. Join us on July 15 for a virtual tour and Q&A with the American Swedish Historical Museum!
Founded in 1926, the American Swedish Historical Museum in South Philadelphia is the oldest Swedish museum in the United States. The Museum is located on land that was once part of a seventeenth-century land grant from Queen Christina of Sweden to Swedish colonist, Sven Skute. The Museum’s architect, Swedish-American John Nydén, combined architectural features from three prominent edifices in his design. He modeled the main building after a seventeenth-century Swedish manor house, Eriksberg in Södermanland. The copper cupola atop the building is inspired by the one on Stockhlom’s City Hall, and the arcades which flank the Museum are patterned after those at George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon.
The museum boasts twelve galleries, including ones that focus on the New Sweden Colony (now Pennsylvania), traditional Swedish textiles, Pippi Longstocking, the accomplishments of Swedish women through history, and many more!

Settlers Inn hosts a special four-course outdoor dinner in the woods to sample, sip and speak with industry chefs, farmers, and experts about how our local food travels from farm to fork and the positive impact of sourcing, supporting, and eating local. Topics to be explored include the importance of nourishing the planet as much as we nourish ourselves, the significance of farming because farmers are a critical ingredient to the local recipe for nutritional and sustainable success and how supporting places like Cooperative grocery stores should be the standard and norm as opposed to larger grocery store chains. Impresario Judy Wicks, Executive Chef Bonnie Shuman and Farmer Nina Berryman collaborate for a special evening to celebrate and educate.

The Top Allman Brothers Tribute Band Has Received National Acclaim For Their Appearance On AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands” & Has Been Named As A Featured Performer On The 2022 “Time Life Southern Rock Cruise”
LIVE AT THE FILLMORE (LATF): The Definitive Tribute To The Original Allman Brothers Band will be bringing the early music of the iconic Allman Brothers Band to the stage at Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center (226 N. High St., West Chester, PA) this Saturday, July 31 at 8 PM.
Kicking off Uptown!’s tribute band series, LATF’s show will offer fans an exact reproduction of the live concert performances of the original Allman Brothers Band featuring Duane Allman, Dickey Betts and Berry Oakley. Musically and sonically, LATF recreates the experience of hearing one of the greatest live bands of all time as they sounded in 1969-1971. Particularly featured are the songs from the ABB’s monumental shows at Bill Graham's Fillmore East Auditorium in New York City in March and June of 1971 – when the members of LATF first heard the legendary band live.
"On June 26, 1971, I was at Fillmore East for the Saturday night late show, the last public concert at Fillmore East, the one the ABB band calls 'THE SHOW,' the one they feel is the greatest performance they ever gave. I've never heard them or any other band give a better performance before or since," said LATF Founder and Guitarist/Vocalist Lou Maresca.
LATF is the continuation of the band’s devotion to performing the music of the original Allman Brothers Band as it was performed in those early years before the untimely deaths of Duane and Berry Oakley and the departure of Dickey Betts. According to Maresca, “for me, those years were the ‘glory days’ of the Allman Brothers Band.”
LATF is the top ABB tribute band and has received countless accolades and rave reviews for their authenticity and musicianship. In fact, they’ve been named as a featured performer on next year’s “Time Life Southern Rock Cruise” and received national acclaim for their Spring 2017 performance on national TV as part of AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands.”
The LIVE AT THE FILLMORE (LATF): The Definitive Tribute To The Original Allman Brothers Band show kicks off Uptown’s tribute band series, which will also feature such esteemed bands as Echoes: The American Pink Floyd, Eaglemania, Back In Black: ACDC Tribute, Studio Two: Early Beatles Tribute and many more. Virtual “Newlin Series” Talks To Be Offered
Each year, Newlin Grist Mill hosts a series of presentations that explore different
aspects of the site’s unique historical and environmental resources, bringing in a slate of
outside speakers with a wide range of expertise. The 2021 Newlin Series focuses on the history of women
and work and will be presented virtually via Zoom.
The first presentation in the series will take place on Sunday, August 8th at 3 pm. In “‘The Power of the Sun Was Extremely Apparent’: Washing in the 18th Century,” teacher and historian Anna Elizabeth Kiefer will address a few of these public history
myths about laundry and personal cleanliness in Britain, and, by extension, the American colonies. Drawing from current scholarship, multiple primary
source documents from both England and the colonies, and her own experiential archaeology,
Kiefer will walk attendees through the importance and process of the 18th century wash.
Other scheduled presentations in the 2021 Newlin Series are:
“Making Sense of Women’s Textile Work in the Long 18th Century,” Thursday, October 14th at 7pm
In this lecture, scholars Emily Whitted and Eliza West share their expertise in women’s textile work in early
America. Both expert craftspeople in their own right, West and Whitted will intertwine the stories of stitchers,
knitters, and spinners found in the history books with their own hands-on knowledge of fiber and craft. This talk
will explore not only the different types of textile work which women performed, but also the blurred lines
between domestic and professional labor.
“Chefs & Slaves: The Cooks in Jefferson’s Kitchens,” Thursday, October 21st at 7pm
Three generations of enslaved cooks prepared the meals in Jefferson’s kitchens. All except one were French
trained, either in France itself, or by French chefs. No wonder the meals at Monticello are still famous today
after 200 years. In this talk by historian Leni Sorensen, attendees will learn the names and stories of these
chefs and spend some time in their kitchens to see the skills and technologies they used to produce meals
“half-French half-Virginian.”
“Making Ends Meet: Working Women in the 18th Century,” Sunday, November 14th at 3pm
This program will be a discussion focused on women in industry in the 18th and early 19th centuries by
Presenter Anna Elizabeth Kiefer. Photo credit: Buddy Secor for the American Battlefield Trust.
Amanda Doggett, Apprentice Joiner at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Williamsburg, Virginia. She will
also cover challenges facing women in traditional industries today, as well as the difficulties of researching
women’s history in general.
Sponsored by Team Toyota of Glen Mills, the 2021 Newlin Series programs are free, but pre-registration is
required. Registration links and more information are available at https://newlingristmill.org/the-newlin-series.

The Kennett Library Board of Trustees will host a groundbreaking for the new Kennett Library and Resource Center on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 9 a.m. It will take place at the location of the new building, the corner of State and Willow Streets in the Borough of Kennett Square. All are welcome to attend.
“For over 20 years community members have planned, worked, and dreamt about a new regional library and now in 2021 that dream will become a reality, said Board President Jeff Yetter in a press release. “The Kennett Library is both a knowledge sanctuary and a community center. It is the soul of our community. It doesn’t matter who you are or what your background, the library welcomes you and has something for you.”
The Kennett Library serves as a literacy center for everyone from infants to seniors. In addition to the core services of any library, there are storytimes, in both English and Spanish to entertain and promote early literacy; there are ESL, U.S. Citizenship, and GED classes. In the last two years, the library helped 24 community residents become U.S. citizens.
The Kennett Library has served the community for more than 125 years in just two buildings. The current building, built in 1961 is outdated, has a basic lack of space for both materials and activities, the facility’s antiquated core systems — utilities, parking, access, storage, etc. — are seriously deficient.
Highlights of the new building include a 110-seat auditorium; Bayard Taylor Conference Room; children’s maker space; adult maker space; two classrooms; one multipurpose room; four tutor rooms; quiet and reflection room; computer carrels; several quiet reading areas; and an outdoor terrace.
Thanks to a core set of volunteers, many of them who came before us, we are now in the early stage of building a new library that will serve the community for another 50 years and longer. Thanks to our donors and supporters, both past and present, the Capital Campaign has raised 60 percent of the $20 million-goal needed to build the state-of-the-art library and resource center.
Join us IN-PERSON as we welcome Ed Pieters of Pieters Apiary for a presentation everything you ever wanted to know about the honey bee! Ed is a local beekeeper and holds a PhD in entomology, and will share facts, tips, and more from his own personal experience and scientific knowledge.
Again, this program will be held live and in-person at the library on August 12 at 10:30 AM. However, you will need to register so we can keep this event safe and distanced. You can do so by clicking here. We can't wait to welcome you back!

The free Partner Resource Fair is hosted by PA CareerLink – Chester County and the United Way Financial Stability Center at their combined offices at 479 Thomas Jones Way, in the Oaklands Corporate Center in Exton.
“In an effort to provide a better understanding of our on-site programming and services, we invite all residents to this resource fair, set in an ‘open house’ format to meet with our on-site partners, tour our facility and to learn about our many resources including our G.E.D and our Employment, Advancement and Retention Network (EARN) program,” said Butch Urban, Site Administrator for PA CareerLink® – Chester County.

The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center (AHMEC) will celebrate this year’s annual World Helicopter Day on Sunday, August 15, from noon until 4:30 p.m. Two main events will make the day extra special: AHMEC’s first public helicopter rides since 2019 and the premier rollout of the newly restored McCulloch J-2 Gyroplane.
The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center is located at 1220 American Boulevard, West Chester, PA 19380.

“We are excited to present helicopter rides to the public this year, as well as honor the hard work of our volunteer restoration crew with our fantastic McCullough J-2,” said Paul Kahan, AHMEC’s Executive Director. “We’re even happier that we can do this in a way that celebrates rotary wing aviation, which is what World Helicopter Day is all about.”
World Helicopter Day was founded in 2015 by Australian Mick Cullen “to raise awareness of the contributions that helicopters make to our society and celebrate the diverse range of people that design, fly and support them,” Cullen stated.
Additionally, AHMEC plans to highlight completion of its McCulloch J-2 Gyroplane, a two-seat gyroplane built by the McCulloch Aircraft Corporation in 1971. Volunteer Derek Hart, who directed the aircraft’s 4-year restoration project, is proud of the accomplishment.
“The McCulloch J-2, the only one of this type in the museum, arrived at AHMEC several years ago, having been donated by Light Horse Legacy and Marvin Wessel,” explained Hart. “The donation included major parts of the fuselage and many components in boxes. Major components necessary to complete the restoration had to be acquired from contributors like the Pennsylvania College of Technology-Williamsport, PA, Piasecki Aircraft; and Olympic Tool & Folsom Tool In Aston, PA. Others were fabricated by the talented museum volunteers.”
“We hope you will join us as we take to the skies on August 15!” Kahan added.
Helicopter rides cost $65.00 per person on a first-come, first-served basis. They can be purchased in advance via the website at www.americanhelicopter.museum or phone at 610-436-9600 or in the museum store.
The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center, located at 1220 American Boulevard, West Chester, is the nation’s premier aviation museum devoted exclusively to helicopters. Established in 1996, the nonprofit organization collects, restores and displays rotary-wing aircraft, including over 35 civilian and military helicopters, autogyros and convertiplanes.
Chester County Plans for International Overdose Awareness Day Include “Light the Night” Evening of Remembrance and Hope
As part of Chester County’s commitment to combat the opioid epidemic, the County’s Department of Drug & Alcohol Services announces its participation in “International Overdose Awareness Day” on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
On this day, Chester County will join communities around the world in encouraging residents, businesses and organizations to raise awareness of the effects of opioid addiction, and reduce the stigma surrounding overdoses and drug-related deaths. Importantly, the County will focus on remembering the lives of those lost to overdose, and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends who have lost a loved one.
From the morning of Tuesday, August 31st, 101 pinwheels, representing the 101 lives lost in Chester County to accidental overdose in 2020, will be displayed in front of the Chester County Justice Center on Market Street in West Chester and the County’s Government Services Center on Westtown Road.
On the evening of August 31st, a special “Night of Light” event will be held on the steps of the Historic Courthouse in West Chester, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend this event.
“This year, we will take time to remember those that we have tragically lost to substance use disorders, and also bring a message of hope to those working toward long-term recovery, including family and friends who are supporting them,” said Vince Brown, Executive Director of the Chester County Department of Drug & Alcohol Services.
“Night of Light” will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a time to gather information and local resources that support those suffering from substance use disorder, plus a time to prepare messages of love and hope for luminary bags.
“This will be followed by a time of guest speakers, including the words of a mother who lost her son to substance use disorder, and a message from one of Chester County’s certified recovery specialists, who is on-call for hospital emergency rooms, to meet with those who have survived an overdose, and help to move them straight to recovery.
The evening will conclude with the lighting of luminaries and a moment of silence.
“Although we saw a slight decline in accidental overdoses last year in Chester County, substance use disorders are still extremely prevalent, and one life lost to the disease of addiction is one too many,” added Vince Brown.
Chester County remains committed to tackling the opioid and heroin epidemic through intensive health, education, treatment and law enforcement measures, coordinated by its Overdose Prevention Task Force.

Kelleher (BBK Ceramics), Becki Mott-Lynn (Flossie’s Umbrella), Stephanie Przybylek (Creative Animal), Valerie Walton (Val Walton Art), Abe & Bonnie Warren (Handcrafted by Abraham Warren), Patricia Whitman (Links and Pearls). The Center for the Creative Arts (CCARTS) is located at 410 Upper Snuff Mill Row and Rt. 82, Yorklyn, DE.
