Shake up what you know about fairy tales in this conversation with guest curator H. Nichols B. Clark and illustrator Steven Guarnaccia, whose creative interpretations of classic tales inspired the exhibition, Cinderella & Co.—Three Fairy Tales Reimagined. In Guarnaccia’s inventive versions, Cinderella’s apparel comes from some of the most famous fashion designers of the 20th and 21st century; the three bears are mid-20th-century hipsters living with high-end 20th-century furniture; and the three little pigs are noted architects Philip Johnson, Frank Gehry and Frank Lloyd Wright. A book signing and reception will follow. Titles by Guarnaccia will be available for purchase in the Museum shop.
Get access to Kuerner Farm, a National Historic Landmark, where Andrew Wyeth found intriguing subjects for hundreds of tempera paintings, watercolors and drawings for more than 70 years. Artists working in all media are invited to explore the property where they can sketch, paint or photograph. Gain insight into Wyeth’s creative process on an optional guided tour. Participants will meet at the Brandywine River Museum of Art parking lot at 9:15 a.m. before driving their own vehicles to the farm. Water and bathrooms are available at the site. Participants are responsible for providing all art materials.
Wind your way through the trails of the Historic Properties of the Brandywine River Museum of Art and hear a spooky tale from the past. Then, shake off the scaries with a fall-inspired menu of tasty snacks (and s’mores, of course!), cider, live music and games in the Museum Courtyard.
An exciting partnership between area artists, local farmers markets, LandArt Events and the Brandywine Conservancy, Palette to Palate’s goal is to bring awareness through art to the incredible resources of open space and sustainable agriculture in our region. The event will feature more than 250 original works of art by Mid-Atlantic artists and local chefs creating delicious small plates inspired by ingredients from area farms and farmers markets.
A portion of all proceeds go to support the conservation efforts of the Brandywine Conservancy. Children ages 10 and under are free with a registered adult. The event will be held at Rose Hill Farm, 490 Apple Grove Road, Coatesville, PA 19320. A combination of juried, invited and open artists produced work over a 10-month period on private lands permanently protected by the Brandywine Conservancy, which will be on sale at the event.
Pennsylvania State Police and the U.S; Drug Enforcement Agency will give the public its 18th opportunity in 10 years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your pills for disposal to Wegmans Food Market at 100 Applied Bank Boulevard.

Honorees Announced for Chester County Fund for Women and Girls’ Third Annual Champions of Change Breakfast
The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls (CCFWG) will host its third annual Champions of Change Breakfast on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at The Farmhouse Bistro at People’s Light in Malvern, PA. The event will honor Dr. Lorraine (Laurie) Bernotsky, Executive Vice President and Provost of West Chester University (WCU), for her efforts to support and uplift female students and professionals in the community. First Resource Bank will also be honored for its commitment to career development and work-life balance for female employees.
Dr. Bernotsky, a resident of Exton, PA, will receive CCFWG’s third annual Gladys Black Woman of Distinction Award, named in memory of CCFWG’s late friend and committed Board member Gladys Black. As a business leader and supporter of women and girls in Chester County, Gladys left a lasting impact on our community. This year, we honor Dr. Bernotsky’s dedication to providing support, resources, and leadership opportunities to women and girls in Chester County through her role as Executive Vice President and Provost of WCU. In this position, Dr. Bernotsky leads roughly 850 faculty who serve more than 17,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students. She also founded WCU’s Center for Social and Economic Policy Research, a center that has strong connections with local government and non-profits, many of which serve women and children.
A true champion for women, Dr. Bernotsky coordinates WCU’s Women’s Leadership Development program that helps female business leaders and professionals develop leadership skills and deepen leadership knowledge in their respective fields. Dr. Bernotsky also encourages female students to realize their true potential: “Especially for first-generation, working-class women, know that you are far more talented than you think you are. Reinforcing this notion throughout these women’s lives is absolutely essential… It’s a matter of believing you are good enough to be where you are, when more often than not, everything about your prior socialization tells you that you’re not.” And Dr. Bernotsky doesn’t just give great advice – she puts it into practice by serving as the first Provost at WCU to also hold the title of Executive Vice President. Additionally, she serves and has served as a board member of Leadership Chester County and the Chester County Economic Development Council.

Join us for a Friday evening gathering (not a lecture!) exclusively for adults that focuses on unexplored aspects of early American history and culture.
