The Residence at Chadds Ford Dementia Presentation: Joy, Engagement, and Fulfillment
On Wednesday, June 19th at 5:30 PM, The Residence at Chadds Ford (www.residencechaddsford.com), a property of LCB Senior Living, LLC, will be hosting an interactive talk for dementia caregivers and the general public. Author and Memory Care Specialist Kelly McCarthy will present her Brass Ring methodology and training – the latest innovation in dementia care endorsed by the National Institute of Dementia Education.
Ms. McCarthy is the author of Brass Ring Memoirs and is currently the Corporate Manager of Memory Care and Resident Engagement at LCB Senior Living, LLC (www.lcbseniorliving.com).
The Residence at Chadds Ford is currently undergoing development, with plans to open this summer. The community will be a Personal Care and Memory Care community servicing west suburban Philadelphia and northern Delaware. It will offer 84 personal and memory care apartments, as well as a variety of luxury amenities.

The Hickman has a long history of providing financial assistance to residents who have exhausted their financial resources and are no longer able to cover room and board, and additional personal care services. Since opening in 1891, no resident has had to leave The Hickman due to a monetary situation.

Wednesday July 3rd, we welcome what is sure to be a highlight of the series with BURNT SUGAR THE ARKESTRA CHAMBER performing the music of David Bowie and Prince, as well as original works! Burnt Sugar hail from New York City and Rolling Stone’s David Fricke has said of the group, “A multiracial jam army that freestyles with cool telekinesis between the lustrous menace of Miles Davis’ On The Corner, the slash-and-om of 1970s King Crimson, and Jimi Hendrix’ moonwalk across side three of Electric Ladyland.” Think Jazz and Rock and Orchestrated Improvisations. Wednesday July 17th, in conjunction with area charitable arts organization HADLEY, we present LOWDOWN BRASS BAND from Chicago, Illinois. LDB deftly synthesizes the gritty sounds of Chicago with the high energy second-line street beat of the Crescent City. Hip Hop meets Jazz. On the Roll Food Truck and Catering will offer dinner on July 17th.
Wednesday July 24th, the series welcomes MIGHTY JOE CASTRO & THE GRAVAMEN. Call it "Modern Sounds in Rockabilly". Based out of Philadelphia, PA, Mighty Joe Castro and the Gravamen is the latest musical project from accomplished collage artist and musician Joe Castro (ex-The Situation, The Lift Up, Nero /OPF). Heavily influenced by the sound of rockabilly as well as ‘50s rock-n-roll and doo-wop, the band takes that vintage rock and roll sound but updates it with a modern lyrical approach and a healthy dose of post-modern guitar effects. Consider it a house that resides at the cross roads where Sun Records and Creation Records meet. Mary Pat's Provisions will offer dinner on July 24th.
Wednesday July 31st, the series welcomes ANDREW LIPKE with a full band. Lipke is a Philadelphia based, South African born multi-instrumentalist and composer who marries Alternative, Singer Songwriter, Folk and Classical Styles. Expect a full rock band augmented by some strings for sure. Verbena BYOB will offer dinner on July 31st.
The series closes on Wednesday August 7th with a Kennett Flash Encore performance of sorts when THE SIN CITY BAND celebrate 45 Years of Music one more time in Kennett Square with a special performance of Americana, Folk, Rock and Roll and more! Porabellos will offer dinner on August 7th.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION EVENT
For the eleventh time since the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program began in 1998, Chester County municipalities are hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event for Chester County. The Friday, June 21 event will be held at the Coatesville Learning Center, 1635 East Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320-2459 (Entrance across from the Dairy Queen). The collection site will be open at 9:00 AM and will close at 3:00 PM sharp.
This collection is not for businesses or contractors. NO ELECTRONICS, TV’S OR APPLIANCES WILL BE ACCEPTED. NO ITEMS CONTAINING FREON WILL BE ACCEPTED.
No more than 220 pounds or 25 gallons of hazardous products per household will be accepted. Hazardous cleaning and maintenance products will have the following cautionary words on the label: poisonous, caustic, toxic, flammable, ignitable, corrosive, reactive, caution, warning, danger or hazardous. Businesses and contractors will be turned away.
Unacceptable materials are latex paint, used motor oil, tires, asbestos, explosives, gas cylinders, alkaline batteries, PCBs, medical waste, unidentified waste, commercial and industrial, explosives, ammunition and appliances containing Freon.
Well known during the 20th century for his bold, imaginative illustrations that brought new characterizations to classic stories such as Treasure Island and The Boy’s King Arthur, N. C. Wyeth vigorously pursued parallel interests in painting landscapes, seascapes, portraits, still lifes, murals and advertising images throughout his career. N. C. Wyeth: New Perspectives will be the first exhibition to examine in depth the entirety of Wyeth’s oeuvre, repositioning him within the greater context of early 20th century American visual culture. Organized by the Brandywine River Museum of Art and the Portland Museum of Art, the exhibition will include approximately 70 paintings and drawings selected from major museums and private collections. A concurrent and related exhibition, N.C. Wyeth: A Personal Perspective, will highlight N. C. Wyeth ephemera from the collection of artist Douglas Allen. An avid collector since his childhood, Allen’s assemblage of posters, books and advertisements shows how Wyeth was part of the popular culture of his time.
The exhibit runs through September 15, 2019.

A horse’s neigh, the battle cries of the troops, the commands of the General and an artist consumed with his work: what is reality and what is a dream? Experience an innovative theatrical performance exploring the bold imagination and creative process of N. C. Wyeth as he paints his masterwork, In a Dream I Meet General Washington. Presented at the N. C. Wyeth Studio, a National Historic Landmark, performances will include a blend of song, dance, drama and sound installation and will conclude with a talk-back with the actors and an opportunity to view the studio. This special production is created for the Brandywine River Museum of Art by The Renegade Company and directed by Mike Durkin.

The Delaware County Symphony celebrates the musical genius of American composer George Gershwin with a special one hour interactive cultural program focused on Gershwin’s classic masterpiece Rhapsody in Blue: An American Icon. From the captivating clarinet trill to the virtuosic piano cadenza, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue has attracted the hearts of audiences since its premiere in 1924. By taking a musical walk through of this classic rhapsody, we'll discover how Gershwin's most popular work captures the essence of the American spirit. Included in the program will be an explanation how this masterpiece was composed with biographical details about his life, musical insights, and a performance of this masterpiece on the Steinway Grand piano by classical pianist Ms. Jennifer Nicole Campbell the Symphony’s Artist In Residence. Multi instrumentalist Mark Unruh will be at grooveKSQ for the first of our Master Class Series!
Mark has shared the stage with David Bromberg, Jay and Molly Unger, Chucky C of New Orleans, Tammy Wynette, Steve Lutke, David Poland, Wayne Henderson, and many others.
Mark is a part time member and guest recording artist for various Delaware Valley area bands including: Montana Wildaxe, I’m Not Sally, The Steve Pepper Band, Double Dose, The Sin City Band, The Brandywine Valley Greengrass Ramblers, and many more. Mark is a founding member and front man for the bluegrass band The Blue Corn Dogs.
Students should bring their own instrument.

Coming to your garden center soon: native clematis! Current research shows there is a lot of potential for these beautiful flowering vines. Dr. Dwayne Estes overviews the genus Clematis, presents the identifying characteristics of the American species, and discusses their ecological preferences, geographic distribution, and garden-worthy features. Amy Highland then leads a tour of Mt. Cuba Center's core collection of native clematis so you can see first-hand how amazing these plants are.

Outback Trading Company, a leading international supplier of all-weather outdoor apparel, has been a staple of Downtown Oxford, PA for more than 30 years. This month the Outback Corporate Office and Warehouse will move into their new location located in Nottingham Township, just outside of the Oxford Borough. The move was sparked by the need for upgraded facilities, most importantly for container delivers and shipping needs.
With this shift the decision was made for the Outback Trading Retail Store to close their doors as of June 30th, 2019. While the store in Downtown Oxford will close at this date, Oxford local and long-time business partner, Ron Hersey, will be opening a new store that will carry Outback Trading Co. Products within the second half of 2019. Wilson King, President of Outback Trading Co., stated, “We have dreamed of a modern upgraded facility for years and are overjoyed with how beautiful our new location is shaping up. We are looking into the future and excited for Ron Hersey to open a new store in Downtown Oxford shortly.” King goes on to say, “It was a hard choice to close the Outback Trading Store, but we think we found a way to ensure the best outcome for all and are excited for this next step with Ron.”
Outback Trading Co. and Wilson King have been an integral part of Downtown Oxford’s revitalization efforts over the years and will continue to work with Oxford Mainstreet and the Oxford Borough to find other retailers and businesses to fill the vacant warehouse and storefront spaces.
The Outback Trading Store will be open through the end of the month with great specials. Following the close of the store, customers will still be able to order any Outback Trading Co. products on the company website outbacktrading.com.

Looking for something fun and educational to do with the kids while they're out of school for the summer? During this year's Terrific Tuesdays we begin with the pre-historic era, inspired by some fun fossils recently “discovered” on our patio, then zoom forward to 1600. From that point, we advance 50 years each week, exploring some of the customs, discoveries, and otherwise momentous moments along the way.
Special guests will be on hand to highlight skills and trades from the past and present.
Each week will feature a different time period and a different special guest:

July 16: 1650-1700
July 23: 1700-1750
July 30: 1750-1800
August 6: 1800-1850
August 13: 1850-1900
August 20: 1900-1950

Members and children under 2 are free. Nonmembers are $5 per child; $5 per one adult accompanying a paying child; additional adults are $15.
