The American Helicopter Museum & Education Center (AHMEC) hosts a very hoppy happy hour on Friday, September 7, from 5 until 9 p.m. Local breweries, distilleries, a cidery and mead club gather for a fun evening of tastings, music and more!

Locust Lane Craft Brewery, Root Down Brewing Company, Stable 12 Brewing Company, Tuned Up Brewery and Appalachian Brewing Company will pour thirst-quenching brews. Artisan Homebrew and Milford Mills Brew Club will bring home blends to try. Pennsylvania Distilling Company, Brandywine Branch Distilling, Dressler Estate cidery and Milltown Meads meadery will add their specialties to the mix.

“Hops & Helicopters is a fundraising event supporting the museum’s programs,” said Dr. Karen Schwarz, AHMEC Board member. “We have local breweries and cideries signed up to hand out samples. New this year, we have two distilleries joining us, as well as a mead club. Some local vendors are also taking part, including Thom’s Jerky and Healing Hands Massage. Of course, visitors will be able to tour the museum while enjoying their beverages.”

Additionally, the University of the Sciences Brewing Program will disperse samples of their creations. Haute Wheels and The Meat House food trucks will sell amazing culinary delights. A local DJ will provide great music.

“After surviving the first weeks back to school, who doesn’t need some beer and a massage?” Schwarz continued. “Really, is there a better happy hour out there? We’ll have music, all kinds of drinks to sample, massages, great food and helicopters. Show me a bar that can top that!”

Admission is $30.00 in advance or $35.00 at the door, which includes museum entry as well as a souvenir sampling glass. Admission is $10.00 for designated drivers or guests under age 21. Attendees must be 21-years-old or older to consume alcohol. Proof of age is required.

PAWS for People will hold training sessions for potential pet therapy teams in Kennett Square during September. There is a Sept. 13 orientation and a Sept. 27 training session from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Both sessions are required and will be held at The Friends Home, 147 W. State Street in Kennett Square. Anyone with a gentle, people-friendly pet who is interested in volunteering time to work with children and adults with varying needs should attend. PAWS for People provides therapeutic visits to individuals who will benefit from interaction with a well-trained loving pet.  Therapy teams consist of one volunteer and one pet who have both completed rigorous training and testing.  Visitation sites range from nursing homes and hospitals to schools and libraries, with a wide variety of programs including eldercare, psychiatric support, developmental disabilities, literacy skills development and many more. Newlin teams up with Wild Birds Unlimited and Tri-State Bird Rescue for an evening that’s for the birds! Special guest Dawn White will be bringing live birds for a “Hunters of the Sky” presentation, and Twin Lakes Brewery will be providing beer.

May 10th: “Bees & Brews”

Enjoy mead from Philly Homebrew and hard cider from Rebel Seed Cidery while learning about our historic apple orchard and the honeybees that help pollinate it.

June 14th: “Baked & Bottled”

The Newlin staff will be firing up the reconstructed outdoor bake oven to make a variety of fresh bread. Chat with them while sipping wine from Penns Woods Winery.

September 13th: “Bellows & Beer”

Our blacksmiths will be at the forge to demonstrate their ironworking skills while visitors enjoy locally-made beer from Levante Brewing Company.

October: “Mills & Stills”

See what’s happening in the new millwright’s shop in the 1704 Grist Mill! The Manatawny Still Works will be on hand to provide tastings of their handcrafted spirits during the program.

                                                          Tavern Talks: Liberty or Death

Will you join the Cause or support the Crown? On Thursday, September 13^th from 7-9 p.m., explore the American Revolution from a variety of perspectives. Converse with a camp follower (portrayed by Deborah Peterson) and learn about women’s role with the army. Sing along to sea shanties and learn some sailor phrases to make life on the sea more bearable. Brandywine Battlefield Park will test your skill with soldier drills to determine if you would have been recruited. If you are not convinced to join the American Cause, it has been rumored that a British soldier may be trying to recruit potential soldiers for the Crown. Finally, explore Revolutionary War-era symbols and signs from Philip Marc Sons of Liberty. What side would you choose?

Tavern Talks is a monthly experience (not a lecture!) aimed exclusively for adults 21 and older that focuses on unexplored aspects of early American history and culture. Guests will experience history with hands-on activities, food and drink tastings, demonstrations, and more. Tavern Talks takes place at the Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Barns Brinton House, an historic 1714 tavern, located next to the Chaddsford Winery at 630 Baltimore Pike. Admission is $20 for non-members and $15 for members. Tickets must be purchased in advance over the phone, in person or online as space is limited. All attendees must be 21 and older.

Run for fun around the Scenic Loop! The Toddler 20-yard
“dash” will kick off the festivities at 9:30am followed by
the Stroller Stretch and Roll at 10am (a scenic power walk
through the Rhododendron Garden). For older runners,
the inaugural Tyler 2k will take place at 10:30am. Prizes
for the top three finishers. The Toddler 20 will be on grass.

Experience the wonders of automotive innovation. Browse through more than 500 antique and restored cars that date from the 1980s all the way back to the early twentieth century. The show features vehicle parades, motoring music, video and pedal car racing, and a festival food court. Activities are on Hagley’s upper property.

This year's feature, "Vintage Hot Rods and Customs," showcases cars with large engines built for speed and modified cars reflecting the owner's unique style.

Healthy Kids Running Series is an organization that provides kids a positive, educational, and fun experience in the world of running. The fall series in Concord Township will run every Sunday from Sept. 16- Oct.r 14th (Sep. 16, 23, 30, Oct. 7, 14). Come to the Brandywine River Museum of Art to unwind, mingle and make art! Designed for adults who want to awaken their inner artists, this program will include inspiration from the exhibition Natural Wonders: The Sublime in Contemporary Art, and feature a hands-on opportunity to paint with alcohol inks. Participants will be guided in applying inks to paper and ceramic tiles, and each person will take home a set of four ceramic tiles that may be used as coasters or for display. No experience necessary.
