At the peak of Longwood Gardens’ spectacular 2018 Festival of Fountains season, those throughout the Delaware Valley will get the rare opportunity to learn more about the crown jewel of one of the greatest collections of fountains in our country.
Beginning Sunday, August 12 at 6 p.m., WHYY will air Flowing Water, a documentary that follows Longwood’s founder Pierre S. du Pont’s inspirational trips to the great gardens of Europe, as well as unique behind-the-scenes footage of the revitalization and glorious return of the 80-year old Main Fountain Garden. The massive revitalization of the Main Fountain Garden was the largest fountain preservation project of its kind and has since been the recipient of several prestigious design and historic preservation awards.
Filmed over a two-year period, this one-hour documentary is a dramatic film about the spectacle of water, light and fire. It’s also a rare opportunity for audiences to view the past and future of one man’s particular passion. And while it is a story about change and progress and innovation, it is, at the core, a story about a humble man with a vision for a garden that would move people and touch their lives.
Additional WHYY airings of Flowing Water will take place Friday, August 17 at 1 p.m. and Friday, August 24 at 12 p.m.

Lead singer Valentina Raffaelli, from Tuscany Italy is a true vocal powerhouse and brings a unique take to an old familiar style. Her performances are always high energy and dynamic, she is a true entertainer. Lewin Barringer on guitar, the "well-seasoned" pro has played with everyone from Randy Travis, to Peter Rowan, Blues Traveler and G. Love & Special Sauce and is one of the best rhythm guitar players in the area. Molly Hebbert-Wilson on bass is one of the finest and hardest working upright players on the Philadelphia music scene today. Award-winning Fiddler Sarah Larsen has also become a permanent member of the band. She brings that fiddle power and country class. On Mandolin Bryce Milano, one of the most impressive mandolin players in country right now. His skills on the mandolin are instantly noticeable and addicting.
