To celebrate the 9th annual Art Museum Day, the Brandywine River Museum of Art will offer free admission and special programming on Friday, May 18, 2018. An initiative of the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD), Art Museum Day gathers hundreds of institutions from across North America to recognize the arts and the important role that art museums play in their communities.
In addition to free admission on May 18, the Brandywine River Museum of Art will offer two Art Museum Day programs. At 11:30 a.m., visitors can join a docent-led tour of the Museum’s six galleries, exploring different highlights within the collection. At 2 p.m., Museum curators Christine Podmaniczky and Audrey Lewis will host a gallery talk focusing on “Three Generations of Wyeth Art.” The Museum also invites visitors to share their experiences on Art Museum Day via social media using the hashtags #ArtMuseumDay and #MyBrandywine.
The theme for Art Museum Day 2018 is Hyperconnected Museums, a recognition of the many ways in which museums serve as central points of connectivity within their communities, both online and in person. Art museums are often anchors for public spaces and neighborhoods, and they partner with school systems and civic organizations in ways that make their towns, cities and regions better places for everyone who lives and works there. Hyperconnected Museums also serve as engines for the creative economy, tapping the human creativity embedded in works of art—whether thousands of years old or as recent as 2018—to inspire new ideas and ways of thinking.
AAMD’s Art Museum Day is an opportunity to focus attention on the role of art museums in North America, an extension of the International Council of Museums’s (ICOM) International Museum Day. AAMD represents 240 art museums across the United States, Canada and Mexico—from regional museums in small towns to large museums in major urban centers. Last year, the Brandywine River Museum of Art—along with more than 161 other AAMD member museums—participated in Art Museum Day. A comprehensive list of participating AAMD member art museums will be available on the AAMD website. Note that while AAMD’s Art Museum Day and ICOM’s International Museum Day are formally held each year on May 18, some institutions shift their celebrations to adjacent dates.
Let your creativity blossom while you draw, paint, or photograph Mt. Cuba Center's natural, beautiful, and ever-changing gardens. Meet other participating artists and enjoy a lovely day of art and inspiration.
Although this is a free event for participating artists, registration is required. Call Mt. Cuba Center at 302.239.8807, visit our website mtcubacenter.org, or register on site. Since parking is limited, please arrive before noon to guarantee a space.
Please note that Mt. Cuba Center is a carry-in, carry-out facility. For more detailed information, review our Art Guidelines.
Rain date for the Art-In is Friday, May 25, 2018.
Mid-Atlantic serpentine barrens comprise a rare Piedmont grassland community that has been maintained for thousands of years by the magnesium-rich, calcium-poor rocks that underlie it and periodic fires, grazing, and logging activities. Many acres have been lost to development or have reverted to pine-oak forest due to lack of disturbance. Chris Hoess, Chair of the Friends of the State Line Serpentine Barrens, discusses the natural history of the site as you encounter a variety of rare and unusual species, including Michaux’s stitchwort, round-leaved fameflower, and lyre-leaved rock cress. Bring your lunch and be prepared for hiking over rocky and moderately steep terrain. Class size is limited.
Although van transportation is available from Mt. Cuba Center on a first-come, first served basis, carpooling is encouraged. For more information on travel arrangements, email us, or call 302.239.8807. For those preferring to meet at the site, driving instructions are provided upon registration.
Rain date for this trip is Sunday, May 20, 2018.

CANCELLATION: The Music in the Meadow festival, scheduled for this Saturday, May 19, at the Chadds Ford Historical Society has been cancelled due to severe weather through the weekend. With heavy rain expected during the days leading up to the event, and rain and possible thunderstorms on the day of the event, the Society’s Board of Directors decided that the best decision to insure the safety of our visitors, performers, volunteers and employees was to cancel the event. At this time there are no plans to reschedule the event in 2018. The Society apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Even with advance cancellation of this event, the Historical Society incurred substantial costs. You can help the Society weather the storm by making a donation to offset some of the costs already incurred for this event. To support the Chadds Ford Historical Society, and our mission of historic preservation, please visit www.chaddsfordhistory.org and use the “Donate” button on the welcome page.
Thank you for your support.

In late March, Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018, giving military veterans greater access to non-invasive, non-addictive pain relief through chiropractic care at more Veterans’ Affairs (VA) facilities throughout the country.
With the new measure in place, Chadds Ford-based chiropractor, Dr. Tom Bianco, is on a crusade to educate local veterans and their families about the benefits of chiropractic care, dispel concerns about treatment, and introduce them to the highly-specialized Gonstead technique.
“This legislation is a great start in continuing to care for those who served our nation,” said,” Dr Bianco. “Many of our veterans suffer from extreme back pain and other musculoskeletal conditions resulting from their service. However, there is reluctance in many to seek chiropractic treatment out of fear and misconceptions. Having used Gonstead for more than 25 years of practice, I have genuinely healed people who suffered debilitating pain and had no hope. I want to make a difference”
Now through August 31st, Dr, Thomas Bianco of Bianco Family Chiropractic is offering free individual evaluations, diagnostic X-rays, and personalized exercise regimens to get military heroes on their way to feeling good.
Currently, veterans have access to chiropractic services at more than 70 major VA treatment facilities in the United States, but nearly 100 VA sites offer little to no availability. This disparity comes at a time when the need for drug-free options for musculoskeletal conditions is urgent. VA data cites “diseases of the musculoskeletal system/connective system” such as back pain as the No. 1 ailment experienced by veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who access VA treatment. Moreover, surveys show that, like the civilian population, many veterans struggle with prescription painkiller (opioid) addiction.
“The Gonstead Technique is the gold standard of chiropractic care,” said Dr. Bianco. “It goes beyond what many chiropractors consider a spinal assessment. It is such a specialized approach that I am one of fourteen physicians in Pennsylvania with the credentials to practice it.”
For more information about Bianco Family Chiropractic or schedule a free consultation, call 484-840-9100 or visit biancofamilychiropractic.com .
About Bianco Family Chiropractic
Established in 1996, Bianco Family Chiropractic tailors a chiropractic and wellness program specifically targeted to each patient’s needs, using the least invasive, yet highly-effective, techniques and services.
Founded by Dr. Thomas Bianco, the Chadds Ford-based practice is built on the principles and techniques of world-renowned chiropractor, Dr. Clarence S.Gonstead.
The Gonstead Technique goes beyond what many chiropractors consider a spinal assessment by conducting a thorough analysis of the spine using five criteria to detect the presence of the vertebral subluxation complex - visualization, instrumentation, static palpation, motion palpation, X-ray analysis.
Since its inception, Bianco Family Chiropractic has successfully restored the health and functionality of thousands of patients suffering with everything from stiff necks and aching backs to ruptured and extruded discs in the lumbar spine and much more.
