Safe Harbor's objectives focus on rehabilitation, treatment, employment, financial stability and housing for its residents. Specific outcomes measured include: employment, savings, entering job training or treatment programs and, ultimately, moving into stable housing. Success is achieved when a resident leaves for a safe housing environment.

Dementia Discussion

A discussion about the different types of dementia, common behaviors, progressive stages and supportive services will be held at 5:30 p.m., September 20, at The Hickman Friends Senior Community, 400 N. Walnut St., West Chester, Pa. Doors open, with light refreshments served, at 5 p.m. All are welcome.

“Caregiving is uniquely challenging for those whose loved ones suffer from dementia,” said Pamela Leland, Executive Director at The Hickman. “Family members often feel overwhelmed and isolated.”

“It’s important to start planning for supportive services early, to avoid having to make important decisions in a panic,” said Wendy Hunt, BS, RRT; Clinical Services Liaison from Holisticare Hospice, who will lead the discussion.

According to the Institute for Dementia Research and Prevention, an estimated five million Americans have age-related dementia and that number is expected to rise as the population ages.

This presentation is one in a series of four Sip & Sit community service events to be hosted by The Hickman. Those planning to attend are asked to call 484-899-0547 or email [email protected] a week in advance to reserve a seat.

Doors open at 12:00 noon for the Connoisseur Tasting and the regular fest begins at 1:30 pm. All taps will close at 5:30 pm. Your ticket will be scanned at the entrance, where you will receive your tasting cup. Every attempt will be made to make admissions move as quickly and smoothly as possible.

No one without a ticket and proper photo identification will be allowed to enter.
No one under the age of 21 will be admitted.

The Classics at Brantwyn is an event centered on beautiful and historic automobiles from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. It is not your typical car show – rather we like to describe it as a great social event and party that happens to have some magnificent automobiles on display. Held on the exquisite grounds of the Brantwyn Estate (formerly a DuPont family residence), the event features an open bar, gourmet brunch catered by the DuPont Country Club, and musical entertainment along with the magnificent cars.

A Grand Parade onto the Brantwyn grounds kicks off the main event at 11:00 am. Each car pauses in front of the mansion to be introduced to the guests who are sipping “Lamborghini Bellinis”. The cars proceed to assigned spots in the garden at the rear of the mansion and remain on display while the guests enjoy brunch, drinks, and chatting with the car owners.

Voting for “People’s Choice” award concludes the event at 2:30 pm. This signature automobile event attracts more than 250 guests and car owners, and has received rave reviews from both exotic and classic car owners.

Prior to the Grand Parade, strolling musicians mingle with the crowd. The Terry Klinefelter Quartet entertains with upbeat jazz and blues selections during brunch and for the remainder of the afternoon.

– Chester County, in partnership with the Chester County Workforce Development Board and the United Way Financial Stability Center will host a job and career fair on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. The event will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be held at the PA CareerLink – Chester County offices in Exton.

Walter Urban, Jr., site administrator for PA CareerLink – Chester County noted that local employers from many industries will be represented at the job fair. “We are excited to announce that 32 local employers have registered to be part of the job fair, and all employers attending are actively hiring for current job opportunities.” Industry sectors being represented include healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, information technology, agriculture, education, transportation and logistics, and government services.

Based on the “one-stop” concept, the PA CareerLink – Chester County is a cooperative program where job seekers and employers share access to a wide array of job training, education and employment services. The flu shot clinic will be held in the High School cafeteria from 3 PM - 7 PM and is open to the public.

Astral is a nonprofit intensive mentoring program that specializes in developing the early careers of extraordinary classical musicians. Astral concentrates on a small number of rising-star soloists and chamber ensembles with the potential to be change-makers and influencers.

The evening's program includes music composed by Joseph Jongen, Vincent Persichetti, Clancy Newman, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Maurice Ravel. Museum opens at 6 p.m. Performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
