Concerned residents and business owners will meet on Monday, May 22, at 7 p.m. for a Chadds Ford Town Hall meeting at the Chadds Ford Township municipal building on Route 1 to learn more about the proposed 190,000-square-foot Pettinaro development at Ridge Road and Route 202 that affects residences and businesses in Chadds Ford and Concord Townships as well as all drivers who travel the Route 202 corridor.

• What: If you could ask God one question, what would it be? Everyone is looking for lasting hope in a chaotic world. Why does life often feel hopeless? What is hope and where is it found? You're invited to join an informal 7-week course called Hope Explored which offers you time to consider life's big questions and a forum to ask your own. A meal and childcare are provided each week.

• Where: Garnet Valley Elementary School (LGI Room)

• When: Wednesdays 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM, Starts April 26th and runs 7 weeks through June 7th.

• Why: In the age of social media, it often seems impossible to have a civil conversation. Hope Explored is a place where people from all backgrounds, religious and irreligious, can have real conversations about the big questions of life.

Join Newlin's staff naturalist for an afternoon of exciting environmental activities. Look for the pop-up naturalist tent in different parts of the park and discover the plants and animals that call Newlin home. While specific activities will vary by theme, you can expect to find interactive demonstrations, live specimens, games and crafts, and fun for the whole family!

Tickets for Fireworks & Fountains Shows go on sale May 1 at 10:00 am at longwoodgardens.org. Admission is by advance-sale ticket only and tickets are limited. Fireworks & Fountains tickets include all-day admission to the Gardens. Blankets are not permitted. Guests can select from two ticketing options: Lawn Seating and Reserved Seating.

Unveiling of the first ever permanent art installation in Kennett Square in the alley off Genesis formally the space for the large kiosk. This large steel forged and welded sculpture is entitled "Kennett Squared" and is by Rob Sigafoos. Rob has been working with the committees of the borough council and Historic Kennett Square for almost a year to bring this sculpture to life in downtown Kennett. Let's hope this is the first of many art installations to come in Kennett Square!

2017 Bayard Taylor Home & Garden Tour

Saturday, June 3, 10 AM to 4PM

The ever-popular Bayard Taylor Home & Garden Tour, benefiting the library’s Children’s Programs and Adult Literacy, will be held on Saturday, June 3, from 10 to 4.  This year’s tour, “It’s All About the View,” will explore the Unionville area known for its horse farms, equestrian sports and stunning views of the rolling hills of Chester County.

Among houses on this year’s tour are two ‘sister houses’ of Nancy Penn Smith Hannum and Averell Penn Smith Walker. For 58 years, Mrs. Hannum served as the Master of Mr.Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds. Both houses are still owned by family members and are full of memorabilia of the Hunt. At another location visitors can visit the Unionville Academy, once attended by Kennett Library namesake, Bayard Taylor.

Other historic homes open for viewing have been updated to accommodate modern lifestyles while retaining an English countryside feel. Tour goers will see some amazing architecture, home décor and artwork.

Visitors will also be able to sample food and beverages from local restaurants and merchants.  In addition, local plein air artists will be painting in some of the gardens.

Join us as we celebrate National Trails Day with a variety of activities designed to keep our trails in top working order! Volunteers will assist with a variety of trail maintenance projects, including trail building, repair, and beautification. This is a great day for any families, scout troops, community groups, or individuals looking to spend a morning in the great outdoors.

On Saturday June 3, the big art event is at Scarlett Thicket Farm, from 2 to 7 p.m. This beautiful show is hosted by Peter Welling in his iconic Chester County Barn, and curated by sculptor Stan Smokler. Guest artists include: Dennis Beach, Katee Boyle, Dev Devereux, Graham Dougherty, Lele Galer, Gerald Harris, Frances Roosevelt, Stan Smokler, Vicki Vinton and Peter Willard.

Scarlett Thicket Farm is located just off Route 82 and 926, at 284 West Street Road in Kennett Square. This art show and party is now open free to the public, and is a real treat for the for visitors and artists alike.

MUSIC AT THE MILL
Concert ~ Food ~ Fun ~ History

A fun afternoon of music, food, and fun for the whole family will take place at The Mill at Anselma on Sunday, June 4, 2017, from 3 to 7 pm. Three local bands with wide audience appeal will play over the course of the afternoon/evening. These include Good 2 Go, Caroline Reese and the Drifting Fifth, and Singles Going Steady.

Although The Mill will be closed to general admissions that day, event attendees are invited to tour the mill, watch a milling demonstration, enjoy delicious food and drink, and listen to some great music. What a perfect way to begin the summer! Admission to Music at The Mill, including music, food and beverages, is $35 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under until May 22^nd. Tickets purchased after May 22^nd are $40 for adults, and $17 for children 12 and under. An alternative local venue has been designated in case of rain.
