Tavern Talks: Digging Through Trash
May 12 @ 19:00 – 21:00

                     Tavern Talks: Digging Through Trash

What would you learn about someone if you dug through their trash? On May 12th from 7-9 p.m., during this month’s Tavern Talks, we will be exploring the concept of what you can find out about how someone lived, ate and worked simply by digging through their garbage! At the Chadds Ford Historical Society, we have unearthed many interesting artifacts in our historic buildings’ trash pits that have helped us learn more about the people that lived here.

During this month’s Tavern Talks we unfortunately can’t promise you the opportunity to meet Indiana Jones, but you will meet real archaeologists and learn more about their field. Guests will also be able to view select artifacts from the both the Chadds Ford Historical Society and Newlin Grist Mill’s archaeology collection. Be prepared to also participate in fun, hands-on activities that let you be the archaeologist. Enjoy sampling beverages inspired by ancient recipes and whet your appetite learning about “food archaeology” from a local food historian. Maybe next time you’ll think twice about what you throw away!

Tavern Talks is a new, monthly series aimed exclusively for adults 21 and older, and focuses on unexplored aspects of early American history and culture. Guests will experience history with hands-on activities, food and drink tastings, demonstrations, and more. Tavern Talks takes place at the Chadds Ford Historical Society’s Barns Brinton House, an historic 1714 tavern, located next to the Chaddsford Winery at 630 Baltimore Pike. Admission is $15 for non-members and $10 for members. Tickets must be purchased in advance over the phone, in person or online as space is limited. All attendees must be 21 and older.

Interested in what other topics we will be covering this year? Our other 2016 Tavern Talks include:

June 9 – Herbs and Potions

July 14– LiberTEA! EqualiTEA!

September 15 – Creating the Perfect (Colonial) Selfie

October 13– Very Superstitious: Fears, False Notions and Fables

November 10 – All Things Apple
