Community Day is Saturday April 23, 2016

Starting with Roadside Clean-up at 8:00 am followed by Recycling, Good Will drop, Shredding, Food Drive and a few new categories of vendors will be at the Chadds Ford Township Building lot from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with Recycle/Community Day on Saturday, April 23. If you should have an interest in helping with this event, we are filling volunteer shifts from 9am - 11am and 11am - 1pm with volunteers who will assist Township staff and direct residents who are dropping off items for recycle. We also need volunteers to oversee the food collection area. Let us know if you can help at [email protected]

The Brandywine River Museum of Art will host "Trinkets or Treasures," an appraisal day on Saturday, April 23, with appraisers from Freemans, America's oldest auction house. The appraisers will offer verbal appraisals of an extensive variety of objects. Freemans' knowledgeable team of auction specialists, many of whom have been featured on PBS's Antiques Roadshow, will provide expert valuations of fine paintings, jewelry, furniture and decorative arts including: porcelain, jade, silver and rare books. Attendees will receive a verbal auction estimate. Please bring in photos for larger items. No guns, stamps, dolls, or collectibles, please. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Timed tickets are available every half hour, with the last ticket at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $30 per time slot for one item and includes admission to the museum and exhibitions. Kennett Symphony of Chester County Announces
Annual Instrumental Competition for Young Artists
KENNETT SQUARE, PA –
The Kennett Symphony  annual Instrumental Competition for Young Artists on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 pm at the Kendal at Longwood Auditorium, Kennett Square, PA. The competition is limited to sixteen gifted young musicians in grades 9 to 12, each of whom will perform a classical composition or movement of a larger work for solo instrument and orchestra. The Young Artist Competitions provide an invaluable performance experience for these aspiring student musicians who have achieved a high level of proficiency. The auditions are open to the public and are free of charge. Each of the young musicians will be judged by a panel of professional musicians.

Three prizes will be awarded - first prize provides a $500 cash award and the opportunity for a solo performance with
the Kennett Symphony, second prize is $300, and third prize is $100.
Funding for the competition is provided in part through the
generosity of the Mushroom Festival, Inc. and the Kennett Run
Charities.
The competition is chaired by Paul and Irena Merluzzi. For further

Molly is an alumna of Ursinus College and Syracuse University. In 2000, Molly joined the Natural Lands Trust, where she currently serves as Executive Director. Molly was named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal's "Women of Distinction" in 2012; she received the CRC Watersheds Award in 2013; she was honored with the Rebecca Lukens Award, also in 2013.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT 2016 - BOB HANKIN

A graduate of Syracuse University, and a Registered Professional Engineer, Bob monitored real estate investments for AWI Construction Management, and served as Senior Vice President of Planning, Engineering and Construction for The Sea Pines Company, before joining The Hankin Group. Bob's leadership at Hankin has been characterized by innovation, a commitment to mixed-use plans that work, and sustainability.

Chesco Pops to Perform Music from “Around the World”

The Chester County Pops Orchestra will partner with the Kennett Symphony Children's Chorus for the Orchestra’s upcoming concert series "Around the World."  Stetson Middle School, 1060 Wilmington Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, Saturday April 30, 7:00PM Admission prices: Adult $20; Senior (60+) $15; ALL children and students FREE, in an effort to encourage families to attend these performances. Tickets are available online at chescopops.org and at the door.

Audiences will experience music from all parts of the globe, from French and Korean folksongs, to Spanish and African rhapsodies, and more. Orchestral highlights include American Salute by Morton Gould and Variations on a Korean Folksong by John Barnes Chance. The Children's Chorus and the Orchestra will combine for pieces such as Dry Your Tears, Afrika from the movie "Amistad" by John Williams, and a stirring rendition of Irving Berlin's God Bless America.

"This upcoming concert series is a special partnering of the Pops and KSCC. We are excited to hear the music the children have prepared, and I know the joint performances will be a lot of fun,” says Joseph Gehring, music director of the Chesco Pops.  Maestro Gehring continues, “The Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus is a very talented group of kids, and this is a wonderful opportunity to get them some additional exposure in the communities where the Pops performs. Eileen Keller, artistic director of the KSCC, has assembled a diverse program that will complement our ‘Around the World’ theme.”
