Bullying and cyberbullying will be addressed at the Bi-Annual Safe Schools Summit on Wednesday, March 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. School administrators, school board members, law enforcement and parents are invited to learn prevention and intervention strategies to ensure all children in Chester County are provided a safe and secure learning environment. The Safe Schools Summit will be held in the auditorium of Avon Grove High School.

Each spring the Kennett Symphony of Chester County hosts an annual vocal competition that allows talented young artists to display their gifts as part of the Symphony’s mission to provide opportunities for emerging musicians. Organized by Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Merluzzi, the 2015 Voice Competition will be held on Saturday March 28, 2015 beginning at 1:00pm in the auditorium of Kendal at Longwood, Kennett Square, PA. The
competition is open to the public, free of charge, and offers a wonderful opportunity to hear and encourage these gifted young singers.
The competition is limited to sixteen singers, age 18-26 as of January 1, 2015. Competitors must perform three operatic, oratorio, or concert arias from the 18th to the 21st centuries, with at least one in English. Judges will award prizes to first, second, and third place winners ranging from one hundred to five hundred dollars, and the first place finalist will be invited to perform at a Kennett Symphony concert. In addition to providing a wide range of symphonic music at affordable prices with its winter and summer series, the Kennett Symphony maintains a strong commitment to education and outreach programs that include three Young Artist competitions, Children’s
Concerts with Instrument Petting Zoo, and its affiliation with the Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus. The Young Artist Competitions provide an invaluable performance experience for aspiring musicians who have achieved a high level of proficiency.

Renowned artist Jamie Wyeth will sign copies of the catalogue for his current retrospective exhibition at the Brandywine River Museum of Art on Saturday, March 28. This event is free for members from 2 to 3 p.m., and it’s included in museum admission for all from 3 to 4 p.m.
It will be Saturday March 28th at 6pm. We don't have the menu and wines finalized quite yet (things were so busy trying to prep for Valentine's), but the theme will be "A Taste of Napa". There will be four courses, each paired with a wine from the Napa Valley. Reservations are required, and it will be $65 plus tax and gratuity.

The first Wednesday of the month, we will have our 18th century dance class. The class is open to all, novice to experienced. There is no fee and you are welcome with or without a partner. The classes run from 7:15 PM to approximately 9:00 PM and we adjourn for a short break and light refreshments midway through the evening. The dress is casual, modern clothing; period garb is definitely not required or encouraged at these lessons.
The classes are held each month at the "Barn" of the Chadds Ford Historical Society. The Barn is located approximately one half mile north of Route 1 at 1736 Creek Road (old Route 100) in Chadds Ford, PA. If you are driving north on Creek Road from Route 1, the Barn is on your left hand side directly across from the John Chad house. You should pass the Barn building, make a left into the parking lot, drive around the back of the building and enter through the large gray double doors between the round stone pillars. Come up the stairs to the main floor and turn right into the large meeting room where we practice.
The class has been taught each month for many years by Laura Bailey to the delight of her many students. Laura makes the trip from Lancaster each month to teach in Chadds Ford. She also teaches similar classes in Carlisle, PA and in New Castle, DE.
Recently the group has been meeting at a local restaurant for an "after dance" drink, dessert or dinner. If your schedule permits, please plan to join us after the dance for a pleasant social hour to unwind at mid-week.

Chester County Department of Community Development, in conjunction with the Fair Housing Rights Center in Southeastern Pennsylvania, will be hosting a Community Fair Housing Workshop on "How to Eliminate Discriminatory Practices: Fair Housing Basics" on Monday, April 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Chester County Library. The Chester County Citizens for Climate Protection (4CP) presents "An Evening with Judy Wicks, Local Economies & Socially Responsible Businesses," on Monday, April 6, at West Chester University Ware Recital Hall, Swope Music Building, 817 S. High Street, West Chester. A reception with light refreshments will follow the presentation at 7 p.m. Wicks is an entrepreneur, author and speaker working to build a more compassionate, environmentally sustainable and locally based economy. Her book Good Morning Beautiful Business: the Unexpected Journey of an Activist Entrepreneur and Local Economy Pioneer won the 2014 Gold Medal in the category of “Business Leadership” from Nautilus Book Awards. As an entrepreneur she is best known for Philadelphia’s landmark White Dog Cafe, which she founded in 1983 and became a leader in the local food movement.

Doctor Lecture Focuses of Eating and Exercise for the Family
West Grove, PA -- Eating and exercise both very much affect our health and quality of life. But, sometimes it’s hard to know what practices and guidelines are helpful and what, among the wealth of information that’s available, is based on good science. Join Jennersville Regional Hospital for a free seminar featuring family physician Stefanie Steiner, D.O., as she presents Family Eating and Exercise 101.
The lecture is set for Thursday, April 9, 6:30 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn, 815 E. Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square. As part of the evening, a representative from BeeFit will offer a taste testing of some healthy family favorites. Registration is required as space is limited.
A certified fitness instructor as well as family physician, Dr. Steiner is a provider at Family Practice Associates of Southern Chester County. She is board-certified and a member of Jennersville Regional Hospital Medical Staff. Dr. Steiner received her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency training for Family Practice at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She has been practicing since 2003 and recently joined Family Practice Associates of Southern Chester County with offices in Kennett Square and West Grove.

Slow Art Day

This global event has a simple mission: help more people discover the joy of looking at and loving art. One day each year people all over the world visit local museums to look at art slowly. Participants look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet together over lunch to talk about their experience.
