“BARK IN THE PARK” OFFERS CANINE-FRIENDLY FAMILY FUN
NOTTINGHAM, PA _ Nottingham County Park will hold “Bark in the Park”, a canine- friendly festival, on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The event promotes responsible dog ownership and brings together a number of local and regional services and recreational opportunities for families with dogs.
“This event is a great way to celebrate dogs and promote the great outdoors, accompanied by a man’s best friend,” said Jay Gregg, Superintendent of Nottingham County Park. “It is just one of the many family activities that we offer at the park throughout the year.”
Food and activity vendors, skill demonstrators, educators and display booths will be on site, along with a new feature - treibball - a sport where the dog must gather and drive large exercise balls into a soccer goal. It has also been referred to as "rolling sheep" in that it resembles sheep herding.
Additional demonstrations and programs include Mason-Dixon Rescue Dog’s search and rescue; Championship Tracking; Chester County SPCA’s micro-chipping (fee associated); Keystone Animal Hospital’s Ask the Vet! station, and Vixen Hall Kennel’s AKC Canine Good Citizenship Testing (fees associated). Also animal well-being sessions on pet disaster preparedness, canine dental health, and fear free veterinary care – counter conditioning your pet to enjoy the trip to the vet.
A selection of crafts and sale items for four-legged friends will be available to purchase, as will face painting and a ranger-led hike through the Park’s backcountry.
Nottingham County Park, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013, offers numerous trails, a beautiful backcountry and Serpentine Barrens that are dedicated as a National Natural Landmark.
Visitors are asked to keep dogs on a six-foot leash at all times, have current rabies vaccinations for their dogs, and properly dispose of all dog waste. Mutt mitt bags will be distributed at the entrance gate, and waste and water stations will be available throughout the event area.
There is a $5 parking fee, but admission to the event is free. Nottingham County Park is located six miles south of Oxford, PA, off U.S. Route 1, just above the Maryland State Line in southwestern Chester County. For more information, visitwww.chesco.org/ccparks or call 610-932-2589.

THE MUSICAL COMEDY THAT WILL ROCK THE RAFTERS IS LAUNCHING ITS TOUR IN WILMINGTON, DELAWARE
AT THE DUPONT THEATRE
Direct from Broadway, SISTER ACT, the hilarious, five-time Tony-nominated musical smash, is coming Wilmington, Delaware! Called “In a word, DIVINE!” by the Associated Press, SISTER ACT appears at the DuPont Theatre for eight (8) performances only, from October 14-19, 2014.
Produced by Whoopi Goldberg, Troika Entertainment and Sister Act On Tour, LLC, SISTER ACT received five 2011 Tony® Award nominations including BEST MUSICAL, BEST ORIGINAL SCORE (Alan Menken (music)/Glenn Slater (lyrics), and BEST BOOK OF A MUSICAL (Cheri & Bill Steinkellner and Douglas Carter Beane).
“To hear people laugh and cheer the way they do at SISTER ACT—a show people think they know but are pleasantly surprised to discover is not what they are expecting—is a magical experience for a producer,” says Producer Whoopi Goldberg. “Happily, audiences across the country are able to get in on the fun as Deloris and her fabulous sisters spread the love nationwide.”
SISTER ACT features an original score with music by multi-Academy, Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winning composer Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Enchanted), lyrics by Tony and Academy Award-nominee Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid), and a book by multi-Emmy Award winners Cheri and Bill Steinkellner (“Cheers”) with additional book material by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Xanadu, The Little Dog Laughed). Directed on Broadway by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks (Guys and Dolls, A Funny Thing…Forum, Smokey Joe’s Café), the production features choreography by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Anthony Van Laast (Mamma Mia, Bombay Dreams) and is based on the Touchstone Pictures motion picture Sister Act written by Joseph Howard.
WHAT THE CRITICS HAVE TO SAY:
Elisabeth Vincentelli of The New York Post calls SISTER ACT, “One of the season’s happiest surprises! Off the chart and packed with goodies, to which we say: Amen! Joe Dziemianowicz of The New York Daily News raves “A blessed event has landed on Broadway. Sister Act is a feel-good crowd pleasure worth celebrating. It keeps on purring from one happy moment to the next.” Charles Isherwoood of The New York Times says, “When the wimples start quivering and the nuns start rocking to raise the Gothic rafters, all’s right in the kingdom of musical comedy!” and Mark Kennedy of The Associated Press calls SISTER ACT, “In a word, divine. This is a musical that hits all of the right spots, achieving something close to Broadway grace. It will convert you.”
ABOUT SISTER ACT
When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put into protective custody in the one place cops are sure she won’t be found-a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and an uptight Mother Superior. Using her fabulous disco-ness and killer voice to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church, but in doing so blows her cover. Soon it’s nun-on-the-run time but she finds salvation in the heavenly power of her newly found sisterhood. Based on the mega-hit film, SISTER ACT features an original Alan Menken/Glenn Slater score with a vast inspiration of musical styles from Motown, soul and funk to great big disco anthems and Barry White inspired musical comedy.
SISTER ACT features scenic design by Klara Zieglerova (Jersey Boys), costume design by Lez Brotherson (Swan Lake), lighting design by Natasha Katz (Once), sound design by Peter McBoyle (Come Fly Away) and hair design by David Brian Brown (Death of a Salesman).

October 18 at Wyebrook Farm in Honey Brook starting at 8:30 a.m.The Brandywine Conservancy is calling for volunteers to help plant 2,900 trees this fall for the organization's Reforestation Campaign. The Brandywine/
Christina Basin provides 100 million gallons per day of drinking water to over 500,000 people in three states; reforesting the watershed ensures and improves water quality. Please click here for directions No experience is necessary. Volunteers are asked to bring a shovel, mallet and gloves if possible, dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. The planting will start at 8:30 a.m. both days, and last until early afternoon. Snacks will be provided at each planting. Victory Brewing Company will provide beverages at the October 18 planting at Wyebrook, and volunteers from Guardians of the Brandywine will help plant.
Planting trees enhances water quality, restores natural flows in the Brandywine, and improves plant and animal habitat. Trees provide food and shelter for life in and around streams, promote absorption of rain into the ground, replenish groundwater supplies, and reduce storm water runoff and downstream flooding. In addition, tree leaves, branches, and roots reduce erosion and prevent excess sediment and nutrients from entering streams during heavy rains.
The Conservancy is midway through its "50 by 50" campaign to plant 50,000 trees by 2017, having planted its milestone 25,000th tree in April 2014. The campaign targets the vulnerable steep slopes and riparian areas (strips of land immediately adjacent to a stream) because these locations are especially vulnerable to erosion, and, when reforested, are the most effective at filtering sediments and other pollutants before they reach streams, creeks and rivers.
"We are proud to work with the community to improve water quality from the source to the spigot in the Brandywine Watershed throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware," said Sherri Evans-Stanton, director of the Brandywine Conservancy.
The upcoming plantings include 900 trees to be planted at the Pocopson Home in West Chester on September 27 and 2,000 trees to be planted at Wyebrook Farm in Honey Brook, on the Upper East Branch of the Brandywine, on October 18. The plantings are financed in part by a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Financing Authority.
For information or to volunteer, please contact Beth Burnam, senior planner for natural resources, at 610.388.8396 or [email protected]. The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art (www.brandywinemuseum.org) preserves art and the environment in Pennsylvania and Delaware. The Conservancy preserves the land and water of the Brandywine watershed for the community through source water protection, farmland preservation, and work with local governments. It has permanently protected from development more than 59,000 acres in Chester and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania, as well as New Castle County in Delaware, and holds more than 400 conservation easements, most from landowners who wanted to save their property's natural, scenic and historic resources.
