Native plants are a great way to "go green" because they are adapted to local growing conditions and require less water and maintenance. Many varieties attract songbirds, hummingbirds and butterflies and help strengthen the local ecosystem. Conservancy staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions, help in the selection of plants and provide planting instructions.
Plant-lovers can also purchase wildflower seeds that have been collected from the Conservancy's own gardens and meadows, then cleaned and packaged by garden volunteers.

A site of historic Importance…
On September 11, 1777, approximately 26,000 men met in battle on the hills of BIRMINGHAM TOWNSHIP in Chester County. It was the largest land battle of the Revolutionary War, which included two future presidents.
The fighting was furious, with substantial losses on both sides. Although the Continental forces fought hard, by day’s end they were forced to retreat. However, their intensity of purpose fortified their resolve and lead to the ultimate American victory at Yorktown.
A once-in-a-lifetime event…
The last reenactment at this historic site occurred over 80 years ago. It is rare that reenactments take place on the actual site of battle, as here at Sandy Hollow, where hundreds of soldiers from both armies were wounded and died on this truly hollowed ground.

An Elder Justice Day is being presented by the Chester County Elder Abuse Task Force on Wednesday, May 21 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, West Chester from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
“This program is open to the public but any organization that works with seniors, such as staff members of senior centers and continuing care facilities, are encouraged to attend,” said Wanda Stonebraker, director of the Chester County Department of Aging Services.
The topics to be covered include guardianship, information on the Attorney General’s office, scams, power of attorney, understanding the court system and the Chester County Department of Aging Services.

The Elder Abuse Task Force began in Chester County in 2007 and consists of members of law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office, private attorneys and personnel from the banking industry and the Chester County Department of Aging. The task force’s mission is to facilitate and develop expertise in prosecuting elder abuse; train professionals such as bank staff and medical personnel to identify and report cases of potential fraud and abuse; and educate the public about elder abuse, and how to prevent and report it.

On Thursday, May 22, 2014, Rotary District 7450 will host a charity golf tournament at The Honey Brook Golf Club to benefit The Multiple Sclerosis Society. The tournament will be played as an 18-hole better-ball scramble, fun for all levels of golfers.
