StaC Peterson of StormFlight Designs creates handcrafted jewelry utilizing traditional silversmithing techniques and tools.  Her designs are classic with an upbeat feel and incorporate genuine gemstones, lampwork glass, and leather. Peterson describes the exploration and process of her favorite mediums; fine metals and gemstones:

[S]ince taking classes at a cozy little art school in the hills of Georgia, I have been perfecting my skills in stone cutting, chain making and metal-smithing, and have found the metals I love working with; primarily silver and copper. I started with classes on gemstone facetting and silver-smithing.  Now I go every summer and add to my skills: enameling, casting, chasing & repousse’, etc. …you will see these skills reflected in my work.

Peterson’s skills create a diverse tapestry of texture, line, and form. The joy the artist has for her craft is apparent when admiring StormFlight Designs handcrafted jewelry.

Costumes of Downton Abbey Exhibit Continues
May 4 @ 10:00 – 16:00

Costumes of Downton Abbey®
on Display at Winterthur

Downton Abbey - Lord Grantham
You may not bump into the Earl and Countess of Grantham, but make plans now to visit Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, the former grand mansion to Henry Francis du Pont, and you will see over 40 historically inspired costumes direct from the award-winning Downton Abbey television series.

Provided by Cosprop, the world's leading costumier for film, television and theater, the exhibit will be structured in such a way that allows visitors to step into and experience the fictional world of Downton Abbey while also providing a look into the contrasting world of Winterthur founder Henry Francis du Pont and his contemporaries during the first half of the 20th century. Winterthur's curators will further enhance the exhibit while adding dimension through the use of photographs and vignettes inspired by the fictional program.

On display from March 1 through January 4, 2015, the exhibition will feature costumes from both the up and down stairs worlds of Downton Abbey, including Lady Sybil's  famous harem pants, Lady Mary's engagement dress, and Lady Edith's wedding dress. Costumes of Downton Abbey is the largest of its kind in the United States and provides a rare glimpse into this fictional world for fans of the program.

Downton Abbey - Sisters at Wedding

A co-production of Carnival Films and Masterpiece, Downton Abbey depicts life in the British household of the fictional Earl and Countess of Grantham. It is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed period dramas ever produced earning a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries and seven Emmys including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries. Guinness World Records recognized Downton Abbey as the most critically acclaimed English-language television series of 2011.  By its third series, Downton Abbey became one of the most widely watched television shows in the world.

Costumes of Downton Abbey will be on display beginning March 1, 2014 through January 4, 2015. Timed entry tickets are required. For more information and to purchase your timed tickets, please visit www.winterthur.org/downtonabbey.

Wildflower and Native Plant sale
May 10 @ 09:30 – 04:30

Gardeners can choose from a superb selection of low-maintenance, beautiful plants at the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art's Wildflower, Native Plant and Seed Sale, May 10 and 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  This annual event offers a wide variety of regional plants and seeds-many not available in retail garden centers--which are great for all types of gardens--sunny, shady, damp or dry.

Native plants are a great way to "go green" because they are adapted to local growing conditions and require less water and maintenance. Many varieties attract songbirds, hummingbirds and butterflies and help strengthen the local ecosystem. Conservancy staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions, help in the selection of plants and provide planting instructions.

Plant-lovers can also purchase wildflower seeds that have been collected from the Conservancy's own gardens and meadows, then cleaned and packaged by garden volunteers.
Free Admission on Mother's Day

Treat Mom to a lovely day inside and outside the museum. Follow a visit to the plant sale with a stroll through the museum's galleries. Besides the unparalleled permanent collection of art, which includes works by three generations of Wyeths, the museum currently features two exhibitions of calendar art:  N. C. Wyeth's America in the Making and A Date with Art: The Business of Illustrated Calendars, both on view through

May 18. Enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch in the museum cafe, with floor-to-ceiling windows and breathtaking views of the Brandywine River.

The Brandywine River Museum of Art, located on U.S. Route 1 in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, is open daily (except Christmas Day) from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults; $8 for seniors ages 65 and over, $6 for students and children ages 6-12; free for children under six and Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art members. Museum admission is free on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to noon through November 23, except on May 25 during the annual Antiques Show. Visitors may also take guided tours of the Andrew Wyeth Studio, the N.C. Wyeth House House & Studio and the Kuerner Farm. For details, please visit www.brandywinemuseum.org or call 610.388.2700. Together with its environmental program, the Brandywine Conservancy, the organization preserves art and the environment.
