Newlin Grist Mill, Save The Valley, and The Beaver Valley Conservancy will be hosting the first annual Open Space Music Festival at Newlin Mill Park 219 Cheyney Road in Concord Township on Aug. 10 from noon until 7:30 p.m. The Open Space Music Festival is a call to action to protect the remaining open space in Concord Township and Delaware County. Save The Valley and The Beaver Valley Conservancy aim to preserve Beaver Valley in Concord as unspoiled open space for wildlife and outdoor recreation. Proceeds from the festival will be used to pursue the goal of maintaining and securing open space for our posterity. The festival will feature music from ten local and regional bands, craft beer from Victory Brewing Company, food from local vendors, pony rides, face painting, foods for the kids, Native American games, and more. Tickets are $20 in advance at openspacemusic.org or $25 at the gate. Driving along Route 322 in Honey Brook, PA, one can’t miss the hustle and bustle surrounding the 4-H Romano Center during 4-H Fair week! Summer in Chester County reaches its pinnacle with the Chester County 4-H Fair and there will be plenty of action as county youth proudly display the many projects they have diligently prepared throughout the year. 4-Her’s demonstrate their skill in the handling and care of farm animals including dairy cows, breeding sheep and market lambs, swine, poultry, and horses during the numerous animal shows. A Livestock Sale of beef, sheep and swine highlights the animal events on Wednesday, August 14 starting at 5pm. Fair week wraps up with the 4-H Horse Show on Saturday, August 17.
In addition to the live animal shows, 4-H youth will display many projects including arts, crafts, service projects, plant science, rocketry & robotics, pet care, photography, sewing, citizenship/leadership, foods & nutrition, wildlife, vegetables & plants, and many other general exhibits. The tabletop exhibits open Tuesday, August 13 and will remain on display throughout the week. The public is encouraged to visit and see these or any of the live animal shows. Free tours will be provided for the public on Tuesday, August 13 and Wednesday, August 14, 10 am – 12 pm. Please call Laurie Szoke at 610-696-3500 to schedule a guided tour in advance.
4-H is a national youth development program for children ages 8 – 18 years of age. Clubs meet at local homes, schools, churches, or community centers and are guided by experienced adult volunteers using educational projects designed especially for 4-H clubs. The Head, Heart, Hands, and Health of 4-H realize the involvement of more than 5,000 young people in this Chester County leadership program.
