Everyone is invited to a Party and Dance, Saturday, September 29,
to celebrate 50 years of the Hadley Memorial Fund presenting free programs for the Kennett community. Everyone is invited! Come help the Hadley Fund celebrate 50 years with our party! A Light Supper will be available for purchase from 6:30 - 7:30 pm and the free dance is 7:30 - 10:00 pm. Come to dance or just listen to the 60's music played by our DJ Del Bittle and maybe sing along? The Celebration will be at the Kennett Senior Center, 427 South Walnut Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Parking is easy at the Center and it is handicapped accessible.
The first Hadley program was October 29, 1962. It was Hal Holbrook presenting A Night with Mark Twain at the Kennett High School. Since then there have been many well known musicians and performers. Many of them did not become famous until after we had heard them here in Kennett Square! To celebrate our 50 years we have programs this year giving the 50 year history of subjects like fashion and medicine. Our first program, after the Dance, is on Disney. See our web site www.hadleyfund.org for all of this year's programs or come to the dance and pick up a printed program!

Come celebrate the Grand Opening of Qdoba in Glen Mills! "When you really love food, you have to love every aspect of it, especially preparation. For us, preparation is a ritual.
You can't be passionate about food without being passionate about ingredients. So when it comes to that, we leave nothing to chance. And that means we carefully select only the freshest, most flavorful ingredients.
We admit, we're slaves to taste. We routinely traverse Mexico in search of authentic recipes and ingredients that we can blend in our own flavors."
"Defining Light"
"Paint your picture by means of the lights. Lights define texture and color – shadows define form." (Howard Pyle)
Chadds Ford Gallery presents Robert R. Stack's, "DEFINING LIGHT", an exhibit of new and recent works of original art, opening Friday, October 12, 2012, 5:00 pm to 8:00pm; the exhibit continues thru October 28th. Located at Chadds Ford Village and Barn Shops, 1609 Baltimore Pike, Building 400, Chadds Ford, PA. The gallery is open Tuesday thru Saturday, 10:00 to 5:00, Sunday 12:00 to 5:00; no admission fee. For more information, please call Toll Free, 877.993.8425 or visit our Web Site www.awyethgallery.com
Robert spent his childhood in Chadds Ford and developed an early interest in art; encouraged and influenced by the art and artists of the area, he began developing his own style of work ... entering art competitions and winning awards, Stack entered and graduated from Tyler School of Art. Using Watercolors and Gouache mediums, his subjects are varied, ranging from natural subjects to architectural, equestrian and Civil War themes. In his work, light, color and composition take precedence over actual subject matter. He chooses subjects more for their interesting shapes and forms, than their narrative content. Lending itself to an air of mystery, sometimes he uses different shades of blue, and gets a dramatic contrast using light and shadow.
Spending time painting in Chadds Ford, Summer trips to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Monhegan Island, Maine, his work has won awards in various exhibits and juried shows. Robert Stack's work can be seen in Private and Corporate art collections on the East Coast. Robert lives and paints in his studio, Wilmington, DE.
Disney and the Art of Transcending Science, a program presented by Jim Van Ostenbridge. will be Friday, October 12, 8 pm, at the Unionville High School, 750 Unionville Road, (north of Kennett Square on Route 82), Kennett Square, PA 19348. The free program is presented by The Hadley Memorial Fund. 610-444-1855
Jim VanOstenbridge is an IT Architect with a strong interest in the blending of art and science. Like so many others, Jim's childhood included watching the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights, although the origins of his interests in what the Walt Disney Company had to offer really got started with his family's first visit to Walt Disney World in 1974. Jim credits that first visit and one attraction in particular, Peter Pan's Flight, for originating an interest that led to his career in the Geographic Information Systems industry where viewing the world from above is a common perspective.
Over the years and through the course of many visits, he has come to appreciate both the artistry and the engineering that has gone into Disney Parks and Resorts, gaining further inspiration from the people who design and operate the parks through backstage tours, attending special events and exhibits, reading a range of publications, and meeting several of the people who make Disney magic every day. Through this presentation, tracing from the origins of Walt Disney Imagineering to what we see in Disney theme parks today, he hopes to inspire you with the accomplishments of one of the world's most successful creative organizations.

The Delaware Art Museum is excited to celebrate its 100-year commitment to supporting regional visual artists with the Centennial Juried Exhibition. On view October 20, 2012 through January 13, 2013, this exhibition commemorates the Museum's past annual exhibitions of painting and crafts--which combined to form the Biennial in 1989. Guest-juried by John B. Ravenal, this 97-artist exhibition (featuring 98 individual works of art) honors the tradition of juried exhibitions in Delaware and the surrounding region while identifying the artistic trends that will characterize the region's future.
"The 1,300 artworks submitted covered a wide range of media, styles, and abilities," says Ravenal. "There were accomplished senior artists, emerging talents, and probably some Sunday hobbyists. There was painting, sculpture, installation art, video, drawing, photography, crafts, and things that defy categorization. I accepted around one-fifth of the applicants and, for the most part, chose one work from each. I was looking for quality, regardless of the type or approach of the work, thus the selection is eclectic. What ties it together is that each of these works was vital enough to make me, and I think others, be excited to see them in person." Between January 1 and March 18, 2012, nearly 450 applicants submitted artworks for consideration. To be eligible, artists had to be 18 or older and currently residing either within the State of Delaware or within 100 miles of the Museum. Click here to see the complete list of all 97 exhibiting artists. |
About the Juror John B. Ravenal is the Sydney and Frances Lewis Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. Organized by: Delaware Art Museum
In November 2011, the Delaware Art Museum began celebrating 100 years of supporting the visual arts in the community through its collection, exhibitions, and programs. To commemorate the Museum's past annual exhibitions of painting and crafts--combined to form the Biennial in 1989--a juried Centennial will be on view from October 2012 through January 2013. The exhibition will feature a variety of media--drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation--and include 97 artists living either within the State of Delaware or within 100 miles of the Museum.
Guest-juried by John B. Ravenal, the Sydney and Frances Lewis Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, this Centennial exhibition celebrates the tradition of juried exhibitions in Delaware and the surrounding region while identifying the artistic trends that will characterize the region's future.
