Demos

Soprano Kathryn Guthrie Demos, a winner of the Astral Artists' 2012 National Auditions, is an artist of unusual artistic versatility, equally praised for her performances of the traditional operatic and concert repertoire and her vibrant and sharp-witted interpretations of contemporary works. She recently made her New York City Opera debut in Rufus Wainwright's American première of Prima Donna as Marie, whose Act II aria "outshone any other single moment on stage" (The Huffington Post). Hauze Pianist Andrew Hauze is director of the Swarthmore College Orchestra. He is a graduate of the Helen F. Whitaker Fund Conducting Program at the Curtis Institute of Music. Passionate about vocal music, Mr. Hauze served as a vocal coach and accompanist for the Florence Voice Seminar for four summers and has served as vocal coach at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music and for the CoOperative Program at Westminster Choir College. He holds Fellowship and Choirmaster certifications from the American Guild of Organists. He has conducted productions of Domenick Argento's Postcard from Morocco for Curtis Opera Theatre and Donizetti's L'Elisir d'amore and Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice at Swarthmore College. MezaColombian clarinetist Benito Meza, a winner of Astral Artists' 2009 National Auditions, has appeared with the Boston Philharmonic, the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, Washington, D.C.'s Modern Music Set, the Gardner Chamber Orchestra, the Modern Music Ensemble, the Los Angeles Wind Ensemble, and on Harvard University's Chamber Music series, among many others. Also a composer, Mr. Meza's compositions and development as a musician have been greatly influenced by the wealth of varied forms of music he was exposed to throughout his childhood. From the beginning of his career, he was involved with both classical and jazz music, and Colombian folk music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and contemporary improvisation are also represented in the structure of his compo-sitions. MoutouzkineRussian-American pianist Alexandre Moutouzkine, a winner of Astral Artists' 2009 National Auditions, has toured throughout Europe, Russia, North and South America, as well as in China and Japan. Robert Stack exhibit “Defining Light” opens Chadds Ford Gallery
Sep 21 @ 11:30 – 12:30

Robert Stack Exhibit

"Defining Light"

"Paint your picture by means of the lights. Lights define texture and color – shadows define form." (Howard Pyle)Chadds Ford Gallery presents Robert  R. Stack's, "DEFINING LIGHT", an exhibit of new and recent works of original art, opening Friday, October 12, 2012, 5:00 pm to 8:00pm; the exhibit continues thru October 28th.  Located at Chadds Ford Village and Barn Shops, 1609 Baltimore Pike, Building 400, Chadds Ford, PA.  The gallery is open Tuesday thru Saturday, 10:00 to 5:00, Sunday 12:00 to 5:00; no admission fee.  For more information, please call Toll Free,  877.993.8425 or visit our Web Site www.awyethgallery.comRobert spent his childhood in Chadds Ford and developed an early interest in art; encouraged and influenced by the art and artists of the area, he began developing his own style of work ... entering art competitions and winning awards, Stack entered and graduated from Tyler School of Art.  Using Watercolors and Gouache  mediums, his subjects are varied, ranging from natural subjects to architectural, equestrian and Civil War themes.  In his work,  light, color and composition take precedence over actual subject matter.  He chooses subjects more for their interesting shapes and forms, than their narrative content.  Lending itself to an air of mystery, sometimes he uses different shades of blue, and gets a dramatic contrast using light and shadow.

Spending time painting in Chadds Ford, Summer trips to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Monhegan Island, Maine, his work has won awards in various  exhibits and  juried shows.  Robert Stack's work can be seen in Private and Corporate art collections on the East Coast.  Robert lives and paints in his studio, Wilmington, DE.
