Family Art Day full of creative fun at Kennett Square’s Anson. B. Nixon Park
A variety of participatory art activities are planned for Saturday July 28th, at Anson B. Nixon Park’s Family Art Day.
The free event runs from 10 am to 3 pm, and offers many interactive activities for children. Creative activities include splatter paint, origami, watercolor, abstract painting, illuminated letters and masking tape trees. Other fun includes face painting, fairy story garden, and musical and dance performances. The Family Art Fest includes performances by West Chester Danceworks, Danza Tenochtli, Girl Scouts, KMC Dance and a drumming performance by Basement Culture.
The Family Art Day is sponsored by Rover Transportation; art stations will be facilitated by Greenable, Creative Center for the Arts, Willowdale Art Academy, Chester County Art Association, the Bayard Taylor Library and students from the Kennett Garage. There will be a drawing for free tickets to the Brandywine Art Museum.
Anson B. Nixon Park is located on North Walnut Street, off State Street in Kennett Square. The 106-acre park has sand and grass volleyball courts, hiking, walking, and fitness trails, basketball and tennis courts, a Frisbee (disc) golf course, six pavilions with picnic tables, grills, two ponds stocked with fish, a children’s playground, and a performance pavilion. Museum Explorer Mornings
July 5, 12, 19, & 26, & August 2
Introduce children to art through this exciting program. Participate in one or all of these workshops designed for children ages 3 to 10 accompanied by an adult. Each program includes a thematic guided tour followed by a hands-on art project. Topics include “Red, White and Blue” on July 5; “Summer Sketchers” on July 12; “Mix and Match Animals” on July 19; “Treasure Tales” on July 26 and “What’s My Line?” on August 2. Two sessions will be held each day: Session A: 10 to 11:30 a.m. or Session B: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required. To register, please contact the education office at 610-388-8382. A fun way to learn history! Search historic artifacts for answers to clues provided upon arrival. Explore a museum filled with Americana. The scavenger hunt benefits the Sanderson Museum and is designed to promote both reading comprehension and a better understanding of our local history.
Recommended ages: 9 - 14 years old. Cost is $3 per child for each event (members free). Arrive anytime between 1pm - 3pm. Hunt takes about 45 minutes. Weather friendly - all events are indoors. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Radley Run to Host Job Fair for Veterans
OnSeptember 6, 2012, Radley Run Country Club will host a job fair for recentUSveterans. The job fair will be held in the Club’s main dining room from10amto3pm. Several national efforts are underway to hire our brave, returning veterans and Radley Run is proud and thrilled to bring it to our community.
If you are a recent unemployed or underemployed veteran or know a recent veteran please contact Radley Run at (610) 793-1660 to register for the event. We are also providing an all day job search workshop (10am to 4pm) for veterans seeking assistance with resume writing, interviewing, networking, and other job search skills on August 28th to help prepare our veterans. Twenty-four veterans can attend this workshop on a first come basis. Just call the Club to reserve a place.
Employers have found hiring veterans holds many advantages. Veterans demonstrate the following qualities: Accelerated learning curve, leadership, teamwork, diversity and inclusion in action, efficient performance under pressure, respect for procedures, technology and globalization, integrity, conscious of health and safety standards and triumph over adversity. Beyond these admirable characteristics there are also tax incentives.

Barclay Friends' Festival of Gardens
The annual Barclay Friends' Festival of Gardens is a West Chester garden tour held each September that features the lovely gardens of the residents of West Chester Borough. The Festival of Gardens benefits the Horticultural Therapy program and is supported by members of the West Chester community who help plan and host the annual event in different sections of the Borough of West Chester each year. A committee of dedicated volunteers including former board members, members of the community, Barclay Friends’ family members, and staff help to make this yearly event a resounding success. We thank all of our volunteers, garden owners, artists, sponsors, attendees, and committee members for their support of Barclay Friends’ Horticultural Program through their participation in our annual Barclay Friends' Festival of Gardens.

Join us this Tuesday as we honor the fallen soldiers of the Battle of Brandywine and the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Joining us will be members of the Brandywine Baptist Church, State Representative Stephen Barrar, George Washington, and living history interpretors.
