More roadwork on Route 1 this coming Wednesday, May 26.

PennDOT has announced the following road projects, which are weather-dependent and could affect drivers in the greater Chadds Ford area during the week of May 22 to May 28. Motorists are urged to allow extra time if they are traveling through one of the construction zones. Work schedules are subject to change.

Motorists will encounter moving daytime lane closures in both directions on Route 1 between Hoffman Mill Road and Pole Cat Road — in Chadds F0rd  and Concord Townships — on Wednesday, May 26, for sign installation under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of Route 1. The project also includes pavement restoration to the highway in Pennsbury Township. Under this project, PennDOT will mill, overlay, and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators, and signs; and upgrade guide rail and curb ramps.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, May 24, on a project to replace the culvert carrying Baltimore Pike over Red Clay Creek in New Garden Township. Baltimore Pike will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Union Street and Chambers Road through the completion of the project scheduled for early September. Baltimore Pike motorists will be directed to use Cypress Avenue/Baltimore Pike, U.S 1 (Kennett-Oxford Bypass) North, Greenwood Road all turns, U.S. 1 (Kennett-Oxford Bypass) South, Route 41 interchange, and Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike/Pennsylvania Avenue) South. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Poll replacement will continue to cause lane closures on Route 926 (Street Road), between Mill and Wollaston roads in West Marlborough Township, through June 11.

Route 3, Gay Street, in West Chester, will be closed during daytime hours due to utility work from through July 1. Utility work will also force daytime closure of Gay Street, between Walnut and Church streets in West Chester, through July 1. Detours will be posted.
