There’s no official word yet on how it happened, but a freight train derailed along Creek Road near Cossart Road in Pennsbury Township Monday evening.

An employee at Hillgirt Farm reportedly heard the sound somewhere around 6 p.m. However, a Pennsylvania state police spokesman said they received the call at about 6:30.

Pennsylvania and Delaware State Police did respond initially, but neither of those agencies is handling the investigation. East Penn Railroad is investigating. East Penn President Al Sauer was not immediately available for comment.

It’s believed there were no injuries, according to police. A special crane is needed to clear the wreckage.
