Thomas (Tommy) Roberts Thompson, formerly West Chester

Thomas (Tommy) Roberts Thompson, 96, formerly West Chester, died Oct. 30, after a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Reyburn Thompson.

Born in West Chester, Oct. 20, 1918, he was the second son of the late Frank D. Thompson and Alice Rigg Thompson. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Frank and Jack

Tom graduated from the West Chester High School in 1937.

Dedicated, loyal and hard working he was employed by Schramm, Inc, of West Chester, for 48 years holding a variety of managerial positions within the company.

Tom was a member of the Chester County Chapter of the American Management Association and eventually served as chapter president.

Tom was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corps from 1942 through 1946, serving in the North African Theater as a communications specialist. Tommy always remarked how “Uncle Sam” gave him a tour of the Good Ole USA via train.

Tom was an avid and accomplished photographer. He possessed the knack and creativity to find the perfect subject, frame it and take the shot. One of the major accomplishments of his life was to honor the memory and vast collection of Christian C. Sanderson of Chadds Ford.

Tom’s work ethic, attention to detail and loyalty were truly evident when Tom, along with the late American artist, Andrew Wyeth and several others diligently worked to preserve the collection of Christian Sanderson.

Tom authored the biography of Sanderson titled “Chris” and served as president of the museum. For the better part of four decades he was the curator of the museum where his organizational skills shown through. Through his tireless efforts, dedication, and loyalty the museum continues to thrive and provide countless numbers of visitors to the museum a look into our past.

He is survived by a son, Bruce Thompson of Cochranville; nephews Frank D. Thompson III, John Thompson, Thomas R Thompson and niece Bonnie Thompson.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Chester County Historical Society 225 N. High St. West Chester, PA 19380.

A reception will follow after the service at the Historical Society.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian C. Sanderson Museum, PO Box 153, Chadds Ford, PA 19317

Arrangements are being handled by the Dellavecchia, Reilly, and Smith Funeral Home of West Chester.
