Tim Blair, president of the Kennett Symphony Board of Directors was recently honored with the Leadership Service Award by the Music Teachers National Association. The honor came on March 19 during the MTNA National Conference in Minneapolis, Minn.
The award was announced in a press release, but in a follow-up email, Blair, reluctant to talk about himself, simply said only, “I am both humbled and honored to receive this very special leadership award from the Music Teachers National Association Board of Directors recognizing my years of service as National Chair of Development for MTNA.”
Other members of the symphony board were laudatory.
“This award confirms what all of us on the Board of the Kennett Symphony Orchestra know: Tim Blair is a national musical treasure,” said Colin Hanna, vice-president of the Kennett Symphony Board. “Tim has dedicated his life to the pursuit of musical excellence.”
Kennett Symphony Music Director Michael Hall said, “As president of our Board of Directors, his leadership has been invaluable to the Kennett Symphony. Now, with the Music Teachers National Association’s Leadership Service Award, he adds another feather to his cap — a truly prestigious honor that reflects the impact he has made on the world of music education.”
During Blair’s music career, he was a Steinway Artist, performing on stages around the world, and was also Dean of the School of Music at West Chester University. He was at WCU for more than 20 years where he served as dean of the College of Visual & Performing Arts, including the Wells School of Music, and later the College of Arts & Humanities.
He has served as president of the Symphony Board of Directors since April 2023.
