Regarding your recent article, “Sanville Defends Recommendation,” I think Mr. Stookey raises some common sense objections to the project’s financial analysis prepared by the school district. The school board should exercise its duty to the community and think independently of the school administration. To lay to rest any doubts, the board should postpone its vote on an RFP and adopt Mr. Stookey’s suggestion to engage independent expert financial consultation to evaluate the financial analysis and true cost of the options. If the report from such experts supports the administration’s analysis, the board will be in a stronger position to justify its vote. If not, the board will have evidence to counter the district and support the views of the community. To do otherwise leaves the impression that the board is not exercising its duty.
