Chadds Ford Township supervisors made short work of a short agenda on a gray and drizzly evening that had most people staying home. The board voted to authorize mold remediation in the township building and hired a special solicitor for what Supervisors’ Vice Chair Timotha Trigg called a “sensitive matter.”
Supervisors’ Vice Chair Timotha Trigg said there had been water damage in the basement bathroom where a sump pump had to be replaced. However, the excess water led to mold buildup.
“The pump was replaced on Sept. 18,” Trigg said, “and a contractor is scheduled to provide an estimate to replace the drywall, and an insurance claim has been filed for mold remediation.”
Trigg added that there would be similar claims for the drywall and sump pump replacement.
Trigg and Supervisor Kathleen Goodier voted 2-0 to authorize the payment of $3,500 for mold remediation in the township building. That figure is based on an estimate given by Belfor Property Restoration.
Supervisors also voted to engage the services of attorney Eric Brown of Siana Law to act as a special solicitor “for an investigative review and to advise the board on allegations raised by a member of the public concerning payments for work performed by an elected supervisor,” Trigg said. “The board is taking this action to obtain advice necessary to ensure that the township operates consistent with its obligation under all state laws.”
Trigg did not specify who was involved, nor did she respond to an email asking for clarification. However, it was reported in April that township resident Mark Stookey had made allegations that Supervisors’ Chair Samantha Reiner had been “double-dipping” by billing the township more than $30,000 in consulting fees for work Stookey said she should have been done as a supervisor and not as a paid consultant. Stookey also alleged that Reiner was signing the checks payable to herself. (Go here for that full story.”
Reiner did not attend the September work session. Trigg said she was out of town.
The next regular Chadds Ford Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7.
