Borough police said they filed charges against a passenger in a car that was stopped because the third brake light wasn’t working. The incident happened on E. Cypress Street at 6:36 p.m. on Aug. 17. According to the report, officers observed a silver Chevrolet traveling eastbound with no third brake light illuminating when braking. Upon approaching the vehicle, police said they detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was learned the marijuana belonged to the passenger and registered owner of the vehicle, Fidelina Pichardo-Mijares of Wilmington. Due to the total weight of the seized marijuana, charges against Pichardo-Mijares were filed in District Court 15-3-04. The vehicle operator was taken into custody during the traffic stop due to an outstanding warrant from the District Attorney's office.
