Tess Wofford, center, with family and friends after her bakery, OsoSweet Bakery Café, was named Business of the Year by the Chadds Ford Township Residents Association.

OsoSweet Bakery Café and its owner Tess Wofford have been recognized as the 2024 Business of the Year by the Chadds Ford Township Residents Association.

Wofford opened the coffee shop and bakery in the Barn Shops in August of 2020, just two years after graduating from Unionville High School and a month after finishing a pastry program at the Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio, Texas in July.

During the awarding of the honor Monday night, Wofford said how she had dreamed of opening her own bakery ever since she was a young girl. But the current shop is a bit different than the one she envisioned so many years ago.

“My life-long dream was to open a bakery since I was really little, and I never expected anything like this mainly because my 7-year-old version was a lot more pink,” she said.

Wofford continued, saying her vision had changed many times over the years, and even more so since she opened. In an interview with Chadds Ford Live shortly after opening, she said a sense of community was important to her and that she wanted people to have a place to hang out, gather, meet up, and chat.

“I want people to feel welcome here. I want to create a gathering space. Growing up, I would have loved a place to hang out with other people,” she in that interview.

The Residents Association feels that she has done just that. In recognizing her efforts, CFTRA’s Jody Allen noted her having live music nights and Friday Night Pizza. He also recognized her community spirit by providing her baked scones for the new coffee shop across the street, Chadds Ford Coffee House.

Wofford has also hosted baking classes for local Girl Scouts and for Unionville High School’s Wellness Days.
