It's spring and that means it’s time for Mead Madness at Mt. Cuba Center. Mead, or honey wine, can be traced back more than 8,000 years and has some intriguing tales surrounding its history. Doc Cheskin of Liquid Alchemy Beverages discusses and demonstrates how mead is made, using both ancient and modern techniques, after which you sample a variety of products. (Ages 21 and over). The event costs $45 and is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Mt. Cuba.

String Theory, a 10-member band, all retired, will be performing at the Hockessin Public Library on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17, from 2-3 p.m. According to a press release. The group’s repertoire includes various kinds of folk music from around the planet. Although the name suggests a string band, they also feature “honorary” string instruments such as a concertina, aerophone, accordion and a variety of percussion. For St. Paddy’s Day, they’ll be playing tunes from the Celtic lands: jigs, reels, polkas, waltzes, and laments. Free seats if you’re wearing the green, the release said.

Chadds Ford Township will host a flood study presentation geared toward Chadds Ford resident's concerns about flood mitigation. The presentation will be at the municipal building on March 18 from 6-7 p.m.

Rachel Kohl Library is offering a class on needlepoint next Tuesday, March 12.

On the second Tuesday of the month, Rachel Kohl Library offers a crafting class. This month, on March 12, the class is Crafting with Linda: Needlepoint. The teacher is Linda Sivilich. The class is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon in the library’s Community Room. Spaces are limited and registration is required. Please come to the front desk at the Rachel Kohl Community Library or call us at 610-358-3445 to register.

Chadds Ford Township is holding its second annual East Egg Hunt on Sunday, March 17.

The Chadds Ford Township Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Sunday, March 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the playground between the municipal building and. The Turners’ Mill Wastewater Treatment Plant. To register for the event please email the number of children participating and their ages to [email protected].

On April 6, there will be a special event at Brinton Run Preserve off Oakland Road in Chadds Ford Township. Local historian Michael Harris will conduct a history walk of Brinton Run Preserve, interpreting the Sept. 11, 1777, Battle of Brandywine. After the historical walk, there will be a Lenape land blessing ceremony to conduct invasive species removal, preparing a future Lenape interpretive garden. There will also be an installation of bluebird boxes throughout our grasslands.
