The Journal of Insurance has reported that a fire in Maine destroyed paintings by both N. C. Wyeth and his grandson Jamie Wyeth. The fire happened last Wednesday night.
Destroyed were original paintings and illustrations, along with books, photographs, and signed prints. The Maine Wyeth Art Gallery in Port Clyde, Maine where the items were stored. Two other buildings were also burned down.
Paintings lost in the blaze include “Snapper,” “With Green Peppers” and “Red Tail Hawk.” So was N.C. Wyeth`s illustration for Henry David Thoreau`s book, “Men of Concord.”
N.C. Wyeth had a home in Port Clyde, and Andrew Wyeth’s famous “Christina’s World,” was painted in nearby Cushing, Maine.
Three buildings in total were gutted, but the report said there were no injuries.
Maine Wyeth Art Gallery owner Linda Bean said she intends to rebuild.
