Classes back in sesssion at U-CF

Superintendent of Schools John Sanville announced schools in the district will reopen today. Here is his message:

Dear Families and Staff,

As promised - this is the early morning message providing an update on which schools are opening today. I just got off the phone with the Command Center and have met with the Administrative Team. Today, in addition to Unionville Elementary, Patton Middle School, and Unionville High School, our other three elementary schools: Hillendale Elementary, Pocopson Elementary, and Chadds Ford Elementary will be open.

After yesterday’s press conference we conferred with law enforcement. During that discussion - and in subsequent conversations - we have developed a plan to safely open our schools. We look forward to welcoming students and staff back while remaining attentive and vigilant.

To accommodate families and address safety concerns we are providing the following for Thursday, September 7, 2023:

Excused absences for any students whose families are out of town;
Excused absences for any student whose families would prefer to keep them home;
PSP will escort buses and/or be a presence in neighborhoods impacted by the search;
PSP will allow UCFSD buses to use roads that are currently closed to the public;
PSP and local law enforcement will provide a presence at our schools;
After-school activities will resume at the three schools outside of the search zone and regular Y-Care services will be in place;
Chadds Ford Elementary, Hillendale Elementary, and Pocopson Elementary will be operating on a Secure Status for that extra layer of safety.

Please be aware that there will be logistical challenges with road closures - Hillendale Elementary will be particularly hard hit - we ask that you plan accordingly.

Your comments and suggestions have been factored into our decision. We appreciate the impact of prolonged stress and know that normalcy is needed. Our behavioral health team will be available to support students and staff. Please let your principal know if support is needed.
