Chadds Ford Township supervisors accepted a HARB recommendation and issued a certificate of appropriateness for the demolition of Hank’s Place. The vote came Wednesday evening during a joint session with the Planning Commission.
As previously reported, the iconic Chadds Ford restaurant on Route 1 at N. Creek Road was ruined when hit by the flood associated with Hurricane Ida on Sept. 1. Floodwater filled the building to the ceiling. Anthony and Katie Young, the owners of Hank’s Place, need the demo permit to raze the current building before rebuilding.
The plans for the new building have not yet been released, but the goal was to start the demolition this month and start new construction in March with the hope of reopening in September.
Anthony Young said the building would be up on stilts to avoid future flood damage. Those stilts will raise the building 9 feet. He also said plans would include a raised deck for outdoor dining.
