Brown leaves sheriff’s race

Joshua Brown, shown speaking to Chadds Ford Republicans in May, has withdrawn from the Delaware County sheriff’s race.

Joshua Brown, the Republican Party candidate for Delaware County sheriff, has withdrawn from the race. According to an email from Chadds Ford Township Republican leader Mary Kot, Brown pulled out “due to issues that occurred in his past.”

Replacing Brown on the GOP ticket is Lawrence Weigand, of Marcus Hook. Delaware County Republican Chairman Thomas McGarrigle said in an email the candidate has more than 20 years of experience in law enforcement.

According to his resume, Weigand served as a corporal/detective with the Chester Police Department from August 1994 to December 2016. During his time in Chester, Weigand said he was the lead investigator on 25 homicide cold cases. He also served as a campus police officer at Widener University and Penn State and as a constable.

Weigand has an associate degree in criminal justice from Eastern Gateway Community College in Steubenville, Ohio.
