Supervisors update ordinance for grant approval

Chadds Ford Township supervisors Wednesday night took action on two issues that Chairman Frank Murphy said could make the township eligible for more grant money. Those actions included the adoption of HARB bylaws and the revision of the Historic District ordinance.

Murphy said those moves bring the township into accord with state requirements for grants in that it certifies Chadds Ford as a municipality. The changes were recommended by the state, he added.

“We’ve been trying to get a handle on this for about six months,” Murphy said when questioned if the township had not been previously been a certified municipality.

While the ordinance change for the Historic District establishes the district boundaries and procedures for expansion, it doesn’t change the district as it is now. It’s merely a housekeeping or wording change to bring the township into compliance for more grants that Murphy said would save taxpayers from added financial burdens.

Other business

A conditional use hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, March 4. At issue will be the proposed Brandywine Summit Hotel on Route 202. That session will begin at 7 p.m.

The agenda for the March 11 Planning Commission meeting includes a review of the draft of the proposed Property Maintenance Ordinance.
