The overnight winter storm has caused Unionville-Chadds Ford, Kennett Area and Garnet Valley School Districts to be closed today. Chester County Courthouse is operating on a two-hour delay.
Rich Schwartzman has been reporting on events in the greater Chadds Ford area since September 2001 when he became the founding editor of The Chadds Ford Post. In April 2009 he became managing editor of ChaddsFordLive. He is also an award-winning photographer.
Kennett Square is launching its “Love it! Like a Local” campaign and social media contest to celebrate its dynamic community spirit. All who participate in the #loveitlikealocal contest by midnight on Feb. 14 will have a chance to win a $100 prize.

Some Kennett Square regulars love a quiet café with coffee, a croissant, and a book, and some love a night out enjoying craft beer and local music. Shoppers might discover the perfect outfit or accessory that’s just their style—or a fun find in one of the town’s many unique shops might inspire them to try a completely new style.
“As a local and a procrastinator, I love being able to pick up gifts on the fly,” says Chris Thompson, owner of Philter Coffee. “A six-pack, bottle of wine, or cheeseboard. Kids’ gifts, a plant, candle, teas, a bracelet, or earrings. Plus, I can grab a coffee while I’m at it. All family-owned shops and all within our little borough. How could you not love it?”
Kennett Square merchants are passionate about sharing their expertise and love for their brands — from eco-conscious, handcrafted, or vintage clothing, jewelry, and accessories to fun and creative children’s toys and apparel. Local chefs craft every dish with love, often from locally-sourced ingredients, and Kennett Square’s first-ever Restaurant Week, from Feb. 24 to March 3, will feature special offers and prix-fixe menus from over a dozen participating restaurants.
“Kennett Square owes its unique character and community in large part to our small businesses,” says Mary Hutchins, executive director of Historic Kennett Square, “but many people don’t realize the vital importance of supporting them throughout the year. Each dollar spent at an independent business returns three times more money to the local economy than one spent at a chain, and nearly 50 times more than buying from an online mega-retailer.”
Loving local is a two-way street. Local businesses are sharing what locals love, and Historic Kennett Square is inviting locals to celebrate their community by sharing the love as well. Tell the world your heart-warming Kennett Square “love story” and you could win a $100 gift card to spend in Kennett Square. Here’s how:
