School guard convicted of sexual abuse

A 28-year-old former school security guard was found guilty of sexual assault and sexual abuse of a child following a two-day trial in Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.

Namar Ikeam Plummer

District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland said Namar Ikeam Plummer, of the unit block of Plaza Street in Marcus Hook, created child pornography by filming a sex act between himself and a minor victim that occurred in July 2017 in Marcus Hook Borough. The video was then shared on social media.

Plummer was convicted following a two-day jury trial before Delaware County Court of Common Pleas Judge Richard M. Cappelli. He was found guilty of sexual assault — a felony of the second degree — and the sexual abuse of a child for creating child pornography — a felony of the first degree.

The defendant’s bail was revoked and he was remanded to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility, as he awaits sentencing on October 23, 2018. Plummer faces a maximum of 30 years in state prison and lifetime Megan’s Law registration.

On August 24, 2017, police launched an investigation into a video recording that appeared on social media showing a sexual act involving an adult male and a minor that took place in Marcus Hook Borough. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Plummer had nonconsensual sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old victim in his home in Marcus Hook, which he recorded by video. The video was then shared on social media by an unknown individual in August.

According to a press release, the victim said she was sexually assaulted by Plummer at his residence in July of 2017. She said she knew Plummer as "Mar” from Chester High School where he was a security guard. The victim said Plummer sexually assaulted her and threatened her with a gun if she did not comply. The victim only complied because she feared for her safety and her family’s safety, the district attorney said in the press release.

“There is no act more horrific and appalling than the sexual abuse of an innocent child by someone in a position of trust,” said Copeland. “Mr. Plummer used his position of trust to prey on a child he was supposed to protect and caused her even further emotional damage by video recording the sexual assault. The victim demonstrated incredible courage by coming forward and providing detailed testimony, ensuring that the defendant will be held accountable for his actions.”
