Kennett Symphony presents Water Music: Titanic 100 Years

The Kennett Symphony will present Water Music: Titanic 100 Years on Saturday, Aug. 18, 7:30 p.m. (rain date August 19) in the Open Air Theatre of the Longwood Gardens under the direction of Maestra Mary Woodmansee Green.

Celebrate music inspired by water:  Handel’s Suite on the River Thames, a trip down the Beautiful Blue Danube à la Johann Strauss, Sir Henry Wood’s delightful “Fantasia on British Sea Songs”, Richard Rodgers’ WWII classic “Victory at Sea” and the moving music from the blockbuster film Titanic.

In addition, violinist Soyeong Park and cellist Bihn Park, co-winners of the 2011 Kennett Symphony Instrumental Competition for gifted young artists in grades 9-12, will perform the finale of Johannes Brahms’ Concerto for Violin and Cello.  John Jadus, principal bassoonist with the KSCC for 37 years, will conduct his own orchestration of Arlen’s “Over the Rainbow” as part of the Symphony’s tribute to him as he retires.  Our voyage ends with Longwood Gardens’ spectacular Fountain and Light Show.

Longwood Gardens will present UK light artist Bruce Munro’s exhibition, Light: Installations by UK light artist Bruce Munro from June 9-September 29.  Munro’s first garden installation in the US, the show will feature seven large-scale outdoor installations, two installations within Longwood’s grand four-acre Conservatory, a small collection of illuminated sculptures in the historic Music Room, and will showcase never-before-seen views of Longwood at night.

Enjoy this special concert at Longwood Gardens – ticket price includes free parking, all-day admission to the gardens and post concert light show.  Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door.
