August brings a collection of juried shows, new perspectives from familiar artists, and visions of cool breezes. Keep an eye out for fantastic pop-up shows happening all month long around the Brandywine Valley.

The Brandywine Museum of Art is opening the archives, starting with an exhibition of never-before-seen works from the nearly 7,000-object Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Collection of the Wyeth Foundation. Abstract Flash:

Unseen Andrew Wyeth puts 37 abstract watercolors on view for the first time, through February 18, 2024. Learn more in this article. Cool off at the Water’s Edge show at the Square Pear Gallery, on view through Sept. 10. It includes over 70 artworks from 22 local artists and includes a variety of mediums, from oil to sculpture to glass, to reflect the endless motion of the waves. Fly over to celebrate the opening of Buzz of Summer, the new street mural in Oxford Borough.  Then zoom to the Oxford Arts Alliance annual juried Regional Photography Exhibition, as well as The Inbetween, a solo exhibition from Claire Yesilonis in the Emerging Artist Gallery, on view through August 28. The Somerville Manning Gallery is hosting the Annual Juried Exhibition for the American Impressionist Society throughout the month of August. With over 190 paintings filling the gallery walls, this show is a fantastic chance to see a wide variety of impressionist artwork in a classic display. The Delaware Valley Art League Juried Show is on view at the Media Arts Council from August 4 to 27. Take it all in during the opening reception on August 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. Also opening is Apples & Oranges: Two Different Voices, featuring works by artists David T. Ignite at The Jeweled Warrior

Ignite at the Jeweled Warrior with an acrylic pour exhibit from Rachel Coleman of Shy Fox Studio, on view from Aug. 11 through Sept. 10. Stop by the Church Street Gallery during First Friday in Downtown West Chester to check out their current exhibition, Mixed Messages, a group show of new works and paintings revisited from previous shows featuring fifteen artists. The Art Trust brings together artists Sarah Detweiler, Margaux McAllister, and Vidya Shyamsundar with Nurture, on view from August 9 through September 22. A reception will be held on Friday, Aug. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m., and an Artists’ Talk will be held Thursday, Sept. 7 from 7 to 8 p.m. The Art Trust is located at 16 West Market Street, West Chester. The Community Arts Center presents the 2023 Annual Members Exhibition from July 22 through Aug. 25. A solo exhibition from the painter Ellen Masko will be on view as well.
