Sigurd Simcox Swensson, formerly of Chadds Ford

Sigurd Simcox Swensson died on March 26, 2014.

The son of Earl E. and Viola Simcox Swensson, he was born in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1926. He grew up in Old Hickory, Tenn. and Richmond, Va. and graduated from high school in Fairfield, Conn. He joined the US Navy V12 Program at the University of Washington, graduating as ensign with an electronic engineering degree in 1945 and was honorably discharged as a lieutenant junior grade. Between 1946 and ’48, he taught electrical engineering at Va. Tech University, earning a bachelor’s of science degree in industrial engineering with top honors, as well as an a masters in industrial engineering.

Sigurd worked for the DuPont Co. for 38 years, including: 19 years in management positions in the Fibers Department in Waynesboro, Va.; Seaford, Del.; Camden, S.C. and Wilmington; 10 years as general services personnel manager, Wilmington; and six years as general manager of the DuPont Country Club.

In addition to his leadership positions with the DuPont Co., Sigurd was a Presbyterian Elder in Camden, S.C.; president of Wilmington Rotary Club; president of Delaware Swedish Colonial Society; president of the Delaware Club Managers; board member on Ingleside Homes and Delaware Technical Community College and chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Chadds Ford Township.

For 33 years, Sigurd sang with the Aldersgate Choir in Wilmington and on tour in England; Singing City Chorus in Philadelphia and New York; The Mary Green Singers in Italy; Ardensingers; and Opera Delaware’s Family Opera Theater in Wilmington. He lived an active sporting life, including hunting with good friends and his prize Brittany spaniels; playing golf around the U.S., England and Scotland; and winning the Seaford, Del. Country Club Tennis Championship five times.

Sigurd is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Dickenson Swensson; his children: Lisë and husband Dan Smith of Hickory, N.C.; Karen and husband Rob Luisana of Greensboro, N.C.; Erik and wife Edy Schlossstein of McMinnville, Ore.; and Jon of Tampa, Fla.; sister LaZelle and Ira Bontrager of Springfield, Ill.; brother Earl and Sue Dickenson Swensson of Nashville, Tenn.; his grandchildren: Carl and Lauren Swensson, and John Earl and Bryan Luisana; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Saturday March 29, at 2 pm. There will be a reception in the auditorium at Aldersgate following the service. Interment will be private.

Pauleen Grace Lynch, formerly of Chadds Ford

Pauleen Grace Lynch, 86, of Dillsburg, formerly of Chadds Ford, died at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill. She was the wife of William “Bill” D. Lynch, who died in 2000, and with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in Hurricane, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Mazie Barr Miller.

Pauleen was a tube and rod inspector at the NVF Company in Kennett Square for 20 years, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of Elizabeth Ann Seaton Church in Mechanicsburg.

She enjoyed needlepoint, traveling and was an avid sports fan, especially baseball.

Pauleen is survived by one son Kennett C. Lynch and his wife Sandra of Dillsburg; one sister, Joan Miller of Galax, Va., two grandchildren, April Azmon and Caitlin Lynch, and one great granddaughter, Sivan Azmon.

You are invited to visit with her family and friends from 6 to 8, Wednesday evening, March 12, and again from 8 to 9 Thursday morning, March 13, at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 West State Street in Kennett Square. Her funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 212 Meredith Street in Kennett Square. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Route 82 in Kennett Square.

Gary McAnelly, formerly of Chadds Ford

Gary McAnelly, 69, of Newtown Square, died peacefully in his home on Jan. 27.

Born in Washington DC, he has resided in Newtown Square since 2005 previously residing in Chadds Ford. As a sergeant in the USMC, he proudly served his country as his father and stepfather did before him.

Gary started his automotive career in 1968 working for GMAC and then Ford Motor Credit. After a few years in the showroom, Gary became a partner in the Lincoln Mercury dealership of Springfield. Gary became the first Pennsylvania KIA dealer in 1997. In 2002 he acquired his partner’s interest and became the president/owner of Ryan Lincoln Mercury KIA. Ryan KIA was born in 2008 and Gary has made the dealership stronger than ever.

He was an avid Eagles fan, enjoyed flying his plane and spending time with his partner, Patti Wallace at their Florida home.

He was preceded in death by both his biological and stepfathers and a sister, Pam Catala.

Survivors are his mother, Lorene Collins; companion, Patti Wallace; son, Ryan McAnelly and wife Brianne; son, Eric McAnelly; daughter, Kelsy McAnelly; two grandchildren, Rylan and Caelyn; brother, Steven McAnelly and a sister, Lucinda Johnson.

Services are scheduled for noon, Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road in Garnet Valley.

Visitation is Friday, Jan. 31, 7-10 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 1, 11 a.m. to noon at the Pagano Funeral.

Interment will be private.
