School board to vote on budget

It’s down to the wire for Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board Directors to decide on a budget for the next school year. A vote on the spending plan is set for next week.

The board set the budget to be considered during its June 12 work session.

Under the proposed budget, expected revenue is $84,918,161, while anticipated expenditures total $84,932,572. Real estate taxes for Chester County property owners will be 28.41 mills. Property owners in Chadds Ford Township (the only Delaware County township in the school district) will pay of 23.63 mills.

A mill is a tax of $1 per every $1,000 of assessed property value. Based on the proposed tax rates, a $100,000 assessment in Chester County will result in a tax of $2,841, but $2,363 for the same assessment in Chadds Ford.

If the millage were passed as proposed, Chadds Ford property owners would pay more than $12.7 million. The revenue from property owners in the six Chester County townships would total more than $53.7 million. Other revenue would come fro the state and federal governments.

All of those numbers could change the night of the vote, which is scheduled for next Monday, June 19, 7 p.m. at the district office.
