Concord in brief: sidewalks, roads, Coronavirus

In a brief telephone meeting Tuesday night, Concord Township Council voted to award a Transportation and Community Development Initiative grant to Pennoni Engineering and the Brandywine Conservancy. The grant, for $84,500 from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, is to be used to study the Routes 1 and 202 corridors for the possibility of installing sidewalks and bicycling lanes.

The work, expected to be complete by the end of June, would study the Route 202 corridor from Route 1 to the Delaware state line, and be a joint effort between Concord and Chadds Ford townships, according to Concord Township Councilman John Crossan.

Council also voted to spend $914,000 on the township’s 2020 road program.

Concord’s emergency declaration regarding the Coronavirus — which has closed the township office to visitors for the past month — is set to expire on April 29. However, township solicitor Hugh Donaghue said council members would re-evaluate the situation on or before that date to determine whether to end or continue the declaration.

Council President Dominic Pileggi said Council would base its decision on updates from the state and federal governments.

Township Manager Amanda Serock reminded people listening to the meeting that, while township parks remain closed, the trails are open. She also told people to maintain social distancing and to wear masks while out on the trails.
